The merger of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces is not merely an administrative event but a strategic move marking the beginning of a bold aspiration for growth. In the long term, this unification opens up opportunities for Gia Lai to become a new “growth pole” in the South Central–Central Highlands region.

The province’s overall development requires the active role of the Provincial People’s Council (PPC) deputies in policymaking and long-term vision building.

Accordingly, Mr. Rah Lan Chung, Chairman of the PPC, affirmed that in the coming time, the Council will continue working with the provincial government to develop major orientations on interregional infrastructure development, sustainable economic restructuring, and the rational use of marine and forest resources.

From there, resolutions will be crafted to be both practical and visionary, laying the foundation for the next 10–20 years—especially in adjusting and supplementing the provincial master plan for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050 after the merger.

At the same time, the PPC and its deputies will innovate working methods, enhance research and expert consultation, and listen to voters’ opinions so that each resolution issued will not only meet immediate needs and aspirations but also serve as a cornerstone for the province’s long-term, sustainable development.

Based on that direction, local Party committees and authorities have also built long-term strategies to break through in this new phase.

According to Mr. Vu Hong Duy—Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Phu Thien Commune, by inheriting the infrastructure of the former Phu Thien town and expanding its development space after the merger, the locality is focusing on infrastructure investment to become a driving-force center, tied to regional linkage and production cooperation to attract enterprises developing high-value crops and livestock.

With its large natural area, the commune aims to attract high-tech agricultural projects, develop OCOP (One Commune One Product) items, and promote modern livestock farming associated with environmental protection. The commune also prioritizes training and fostering its key staff to meet new mission requirements.

In Canh Vinh Commune, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy—Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Commune People’s Council—said that after the merger, the expanded development space has created favorable conditions to leverage the locality’s inherent potential and advantages.

Notably, planning work has been implemented based on the common planning framework of the three former communes (Canh Vinh, Canh Hien, Canh Hiep), aligned with the development orientation of the Becamex Binh Dinh Industrial Park to suit the new context.

“We will prioritize industrial development along with logistics infrastructure construction in the western area of the commune, while focusing on developing community-based tourism in Canh Tien Village, harmonizing industrial growth and tourism services to ensure sustainable socio-economic development,” Ms. Thuy shared.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rah Lan Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Ia Hru Commune, said that the commune is reviewing and adjusting its agricultural land-use plan, defining concentrated production zones specializing in key crops such as coffee, pepper, durian, and sugarcane.

At the same time, it is developing agriculture along the value chain, promoting cooperation among farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises, and establishing planting area codes and livestock area codes for traceability to enhance the export value of agricultural products.

As Vietnam strengthens regional economic development, Gia Lai has emerged as a locality with multiple advantages to break through and become a new “growth pole” of the South Central–Central Highlands region.

Dr. Tran Du Lich, a member of the National Monetary Policy Advisory Council, observed that Gia Lai possesses unique advantages strong enough to rise vigorously. Although its GRDP in 2025 is projected at around USD 10 billion (ranking 19th nationwide), the province has clearly defined its breakthrough goals, turning potential into growth momentum through strong political determination and a sustainable development strategy.

According to Dr. Lich, the coordinated efforts of the entire political system, the progressive and reform-driven spirit of provincial leaders, along with abundant young human resources, increasingly modern socio-economic infrastructure, and open investment policies, are key factors enabling Gia Lai to rise and become an “emerging market” attractive to both domestic and foreign investors.

Beyond economic potential, Gia Lai is also recognized as a land rich in tourism resources, offering many opportunities for cooperation and sustainable development.

Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trung Luong, former Deputy Director of the Institute for Tourism Research and a member of the National Planning Advisory Expert Group, stated that Gia Lai has abundant natural and cultural tourism resources sufficient to form distinctive tourism products.

Notably, the province is home to the unique cultural heritage of the Central Highlands Gong Culture Space, recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity.

In addition, Gia Lai also boasts Binh Dinh Traditional Martial Arts, an intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam, and the Roc Tung–Go Da archaeological site, recognized as a special national relic.

The province’s natural landmarks such as the Chu Dang Ya volcano, Bien Ho, Ham Rong Mountain, and Kon Ka Kinh National Park (an ASEAN heritage park) all contribute to its reputation as a “green land” full of vitality and allure.

With its natural, cultural, and human advantages, along with decisive leadership and governance, Gia Lai now possesses all the conditions to rise as a new “growth pole” in the South Central–Central Highlands region. This is not merely an aspiration—it has been concretized through strategies, planning, and the strong cooperation of the entire political system and business community.

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized: “Gia Lai occupies a strategic position at the center of East–West and North–South economic corridors, serving as a bridge connecting the Central Coast, Central Highlands, and neighboring countries such as Laos, Cambodia, and the Mekong subregion. With its diverse ecosystem, 130 km of coastline, more than 80 km of border, and great potential in high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, industry, services, and logistics, Gia Lai can be considered a ‘miniature Vietnam’, a foundation for comprehensive, modern, dynamic, and sustainable development.”

Especially during 2026–2030, the province will accelerate science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transition; pursue rapid and sustainable growth; and develop Gia Lai into a hub for industry, high-tech agriculture, services, tourism, artificial intelligence (AI), and semiconductors.

The goal is to make Gia Lai a relatively developed province with double-digit economic growth during 2026–2030, moving in step with the nation into a new era of development.

At the ceremony announcing the National Assembly’s resolution on the provincial Merger and the Central Party’s decisions on establishing the provincial Party Committee and local leadership personnel” held on the morning of June 30, General Secretary To Lam delivered a message to the entire nation: The reorganization of administrative boundaries and the operation of a new governance model are objective and inevitable requirements in the context of globalization, digital transformation, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This is a valuable opportunity to renew leadership thinking, state management methods, apply science and technology, and improve national governance quality and public service efficiency.

“We are standing before a great opportunity. Every organization and individual is a vital link in this powerful reform movement. Let every working day be a day of creation, and let every citizen be a warrior on the frontlines of renewal—so that the revolutionary spirit of determination, creativity, and national pride permeates every decision, every action, and every step of progress,” General Secretary To Lam affirmed.
