The closing ceremony was held on the morning of Sept. 15 by the Organizing Committee of the 2026 Gia Lai Provincial Sports Festival.
Huỳnh Thúy Vân, a member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Council, attended the ceremony alongside representatives of departments, agencies, localities and participating sports delegations.
The festival ran from June 15 to Sept. 14, with competitions in 21 sports held in Pleiku Ward and Quy Nhơn Ward.
Athletes represented communes, wards and three sectors, Public Security, Military, and Education and Training, in the provincial competition.
In the ward and sector category, Pleiku Ward topped the medal table with 33 gold, 35 silver and 33 bronze medals.
The Department of Education and Training placed second with 23 gold, nine silver and 15 bronze medals, followed by Quy Nhơn Ward with 18 gold, nine silver and 31 bronze medals.
Tuy Phước Commune led the commune category with 14 gold, 14 silver and 19 bronze medals. Đak Đoa Commune finished second with 12 gold, seven silver and 16 bronze medals, while Ia Krái Commune was third with 11 gold, five silver and four bronze medals.
Held under the theme “Gia Lai Sports - Aspiration for Development,” the festival provided an opportunity to assess grassroots sports movements and strengthen exchanges among localities, sectors and units.
It also helped identify and select talented athletes for further development in the province's elite sports teams.
The festival's results will serve as a basis for the sports sector to advise on investment in and upgrades to training and competition facilities and equipment.
They will also support efforts to improve the management, organization and operation of sports activities, with the aim of promoting broader participation in sports across the province.
On this occasion, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a send-off ceremony for the Gia Lai sports delegation participating in the 10th National Sports Games in 2026.
Based on competition results and athletes’ achievements, the sector has reviewed and selected more than 180 outstanding athletes across 16 sports to compete at the 10th National Sports Games, including: athletics, taekwondo, boxing, swimming, triathlon, billiards & snooker, chess and Chinese chess, handball, wushu, kickboxing, traditional martial arts, muay, vovinam, karate, stick pushing, and tug of war.
This team is expected to continue building on their achievements and contribute to the overall success of the Gia Lai delegation at the 10th National Sports Games in 2026.
