The launch ceremony took place at Đại Đoàn Kết Square in Pleiku City with more than 550 delegates, including officials, civil servants, youth, and residents from local wards.
Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh emphasized that Gia Lai would not sacrifice the environment for economic growth.
He highlighted recent initiatives such as waste sorting at source, reducing single-use plastics, afforestation, promoting recycling, and developing a circular economy in industrial production.
The province outlined key tasks for 2025, including enhancing public awareness on environmental responsibilities, strengthening waste collection and treatment, and fostering green lifestyles across households, villages, and communities.
The campaign also seeks to phase out single-use plastic products and non-biodegradable bags, while encouraging environmentally friendly goods and sustainable consumption.
Thanh also called for reinforced forest protection, water and land conservation, and preservation of natural landscapes.
He urged the expansion of movements such as “Green Sunday,” “A cleaner Gia Lai environment day,” “Green-clean-beautiful schools,” and “environmentally friendly agencies and units.”
Businesses were encouraged to adopt cleaner technologies and link economic growth with environmental stewardship, aiming to position Gia Lai as a model of green development in the Central Highlands.
At the ceremony, Thanh presented a symbolic board for tree donations to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Immediately afterward, provincial leaders and delegates planted trees at Đại Đoàn Kết Square. Simultaneous environmental clean-up activities were held across Pleiku, An Phú, Hội Phú, Diên Hồng, and Thống Nhất wards, energizing community engagement in the campaign.
The “Clean up the world” initiative, launched annually by the United Nations, serves as both a communication platform and a call to action.
For Gia Lai, it marks a commitment to building a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable environment.
