Striker Nguyễn Đình Bắc has made tournament history after sweeping six individual awards at the AFC U23 Asian Cup, marking an unprecedented achievement for a Vietnamese footballer in an AFC competition.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Monday announced that Đình Bắc’s back-header in U23 Vietnam’s 3–2 victory over U23 UAE was voted the Most Impressive Goal of the knockout stage. The strike outperformed five other nominations selected for fan voting following the conclusion of the tournament.

The Nghệ An-born forward had earlier won Best Goal of the Group Stage for his effort against Saudi Arabia and was also named Most Impressive Player, allowing him to sweep all three fan-voted categories at the 2026 finals.

Beyond fan polls, the 20-year-old striker captured the Top Scorer title with four goals and two assists. Although Japan’s Ryunosuke Sato matched his numbers, Đình Bắc ranked higher due to greater efficiency, having played fewer minutes.

The total of six awards, three decided by fans, two by organizers, and one based on technical statistics, sets a record for the highest number of individual accolades earned by a single player at an AFC U23 Asian Cup event. AFC data shows no senior-level player has ever achieved a similar tally in an official AFC tournament.

Regional media reacted strongly to his performance. Indonesia’s Bola newspaper wrote that Đình Bắc “created a sensation at the AFC U23 Asian Cup, maintaining the highest level of form from match to match”.

His dominant showing underscores both his rising talent and the advancement of Vietnam’s new football generation, fueling optimism for the nation’s future on the continental stage.
