This marks the highest October figure ever recorded for the Vietnamese market and contributes to Japan’s strong inbound tourism performance during the autumn peak season.
JNTO reported that Japan welcomed over 3.89 million international arrivals in October 2025, a 17.6% year-on-year increase and the highest volume ever for the month. Vietnamese travelers continued to show consistent growth despite a slight slowdown in outbound demand.
Between January and October 2025, Vietnam recorded a total of 583,000 visitors to Japan, up nearly 10% compared to the same period in 2024. Vietnam remains one of the strongest-performing Southeast Asian markets, alongside Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Expanded air connectivity was a major factor supporting demand in October. Several new or expanded routes were introduced, including Hanoi–Hiroshima, Hanoi–Chubu, Ho Chi Minh City–Izumo (charter), and Hanoi–Fukushima (charter).
JNTO also noted that a significant portion of Vietnamese travelers consists of students, technical interns, and short-term workers, meaning the data reflects not only leisure travelers but also individuals returning for work or training cycles.
A weakened Japanese yen in 2025 has further boosted demand, making spending on accommodation, dining, shopping, and travel services more affordable for visitors across Asia.
Japan also saw strong October growth from major markets including the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Spain. In East Asia, South Korea and Taiwan set new October records, while arrivals from China rose by more than 22%.
As Japan enters the year-end peak in November and December, winter festivals, illumination events, and major shopping periods are expected to continue drawing tourists, including those from Vietnam.

October also marked a leadership change at JNTO Vietnam. After more than four years in the role, Mr. Uchida Shusuke completed his term on October 31, 2025.
During the Covid-19 period, he worked with airlines, travel firms, and agencies in Vietnam to support the strong rebound of Japanese tourism.
From November 1, 2025, Ms. Hironiwa Saho, who has extensive experience at Narita International Airport, assumed the position of Deputy Representative of JNTO Vietnam.
