25 teams compete in Central Vietnam VEX IQ qualifier for 2026 national robotics championship

The qualifying round of the 2026 National VEX Robotics Championship for the Central and Central Highlands region opened on December 6 in Pleiku Ward, Gia Lai Province, bringing together 25 teams vying for spots at the national finals.

The two-day event, held December 6-7, determines which teams will advance to the VEX IQ National Championship in January 2026. Successful teams will later be selected to represent Vietnam at the VEX Robotics World Championship in the United States in May 2026.

Co-hosted by Chi Lang High School and Sao Viet Primary, Secondary and High School, the competition featured teams from multiple provinces, including former national champions and one team from Pakse Province, Laos. Gia Lai fielded six teams, two each from Nguyen Du Secondary School, Sao Viet Primary, Secondary and High School, and Chi Lang High School.

Teams competed in two divisions, Alliance and Skills, under the VEX IQ category designed for students under 15.

The platform allows participants to design, program and operate robots to develop scientific thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills. The VEX V5 category serves high school students.

Beyond the competition, participants joined cultural and educational side events, including tours of the Bien Ho scenic site, culinary exchanges and a robotics workshop.

Organizers said the event encouraged students in Gia Lai to connect with peers from other regions and further cultivate creativity in robotics.
