The plans were discussed at a working session on August 7 chaired by Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
The meeting also saw HCMUT, Quy Nhon University and Quang Trung University sign a cooperation agreement on sharing laboratory facilities for training, scientific research and technology transfer in semiconductors, quantum technology and AI.
Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Lam Hai Giang attended the session, along with representatives of provincial departments and agencies and leaders of universities, colleges and relevant organizations.
According to the provincial Department of Science and Technology, it has held several meetings with HCMUT to advance cooperation initiatives, coordinate surveys for the SATREPS Project and explore collaboration in STEM education, biotechnology, a government-academia-business partnership model and other strategic technologies.
For the 2026-2027 period, cooperation is expected to focus on training and developing high-quality human resources, science and technology, digital transformation, high-tech agriculture, research into strategic technology products, technology transfer and international cooperation.
An HCMUT representative said the university would concentrate on two main areas of cooperation with Gia Lai: human resource development and scientific research.
Digital technology, semiconductors and AI will be among the priorities, alongside efforts to strengthen the digital capabilities of provincial officials and staff.
The university also plans to work with the province and local higher education institutions to assess practical needs, develop cooperation programs and identify specific research topics.
It will also explore the possibility of establishing a research and business support center in Gia Lai to promote innovation.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan said cooperation between Gia Lai and HCMUT should be geared toward joint research and development, with tangible results serving as the key measure of effectiveness.
He called for breakthrough cooperation plans tailored to the province's specific challenges, particularly in developing high-quality human resources in digital technology, semiconductors, AI and quantum technology.
Chairman Tuan also asked HCMUT to develop advanced training programs and strengthen partnerships with Quy Nhon University, Quang Trung University and the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in education, scientific research and the development of strong research groups.
He said science, technology and innovation should be applied more extensively to address practical challenges facing the province.
The chairman said he expected the partnership to lay the groundwork for large-scale research programs, accelerate progress in education, research and technology transfer, and help build an innovation ecosystem and a highly skilled workforce to support Gia Lai's socio-economic development.
