The patient, identified as N.T.T from Binh Hiep commune, was admitted after three days of persistent right-sided abdominal pain. Earlier treatment at Tay Son medical clinic had not improved the symptoms.
Emergency ultrasound and CT scans revealed the gallbladder was twisted and necrotic. A surgical team led by doctor Vo Xuan Thanh, alongside doctor Nguyen Van Phien and anesthesiologist doctor Vo Huy Cuong, carried out immediate surgery.
Hospital officials described the case as exceptional due to both the patient’s advanced age and the late detection of the condition.
Following timely intervention, the operation was deemed successful, and the patient’s recovery progressed quickly.
Doctor Nguyen Quoc Kha, Deputy head of the general surgery department, advised that individuals experiencing abdominal pain should seek medical care promptly.
He warned against self-medicating at home, which can delay diagnosis and worsen health risks.
