Gia Lai sports festival opens crossbow shooting, stilt racing and stick-pushing competitions

The Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on June 16 officially opened the crossbow shooting, stilt racing and stick-pushing competitions as part of the first Gia Lai Provincial Sports Festival 2026, attracting more than 430 athletes from communes, wards and the Education sector.

The crossbow shooting competition, held at Nguyen Chi Thanh High School in Hoi Phu Ward, brought together nearly 170 athletes from 37 teams. Competitors contested 10 medal events for men and women, including individual standing and kneeling disciplines as well as team standing and kneeling categories at a distance of 20 metres.

At the same venue, more than 50 athletes from 14 teams competed in the stilt racing event. Participants contested eight events for men and women across distances of 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m.

All crossbow shooting and stilt racing competitions are scheduled to conclude on June 18.

Later on June 16, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the stick-pushing competition at Pleiku Sports Arena. The event attracted 210 athletes from 32 teams representing communes, wards and the Education sector.

Athletes competed in 25 categories for men and women. The men's division featured 13 weight classes ranging from 48kg to over 85kg, while the women's division included 12 weight classes from 45kg to over 75kg.

The stick-pushing competition is being held at Pleiku Sports Arena and is expected to conclude on June 19.
