Vietnamese school launches pickleball tournament to mark Teachers’ Day anniversary

More than 240 students and teachers from Nguyen Hue Secondary School gathered on Friday morning for the opening of the “Teachers and Students” Pickleball Tournament, celebrating the 43rd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20, 1982 – November 20, 2025).

The event took place at the Pickleball 52 Sports Court, 114 Chu Manh Trinh Street, Hoi Phu Ward, Gia Lai Province.

The competition, the first indoor Pickleball tournament ever held at a school in Gia Lai, featured teams from four grade levels divided into two groups, grades 6–7 and grades 8–9.

Participants competed in three categories: men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, with each team pairing one teacher and one student.

Players advanced through qualifying rounds to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final match to determine the champions.

Organizers said the tournament aimed to promote physical fitness and sportsmanship while strengthening the bond between teachers and students and encouraging the practice of pickleball within the school community.

The total cost of organizing the event, covered by the school and local sponsors, was approximately 50 million VND (about $1,950).
