Vietnamese football coach Vu Tien Thanh has left Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) to take over as head coach of Ninh Binh FC, the club announced on March 4.

Thanh, who had been serving as technical director at HAGL, will assume the role at Ninh Binh following an agreement between the two clubs’ owners, Doan Nguyen Duc, widely known as “boss Duc”, and Nguyen Duc Thuy, or “boss Thuy”.

The move comes after Ninh Binh dismissed Spanish coach Gerard Albadalejo following a run of three consecutive defeats that left the team trailing significantly behind league leaders Cong an Ha Noi in the LPBank V-League 2025-2026 standings.

Thanh’s first match in charge of Ninh Binh FC is scheduled for March 7, when the team hosts SHB Da Nang.

HAGL confirmed that Thanh will no longer hold the position of technical director at the club. However, he will remain director of the LPBank HAGL Academy.

The 1964-born coach is expected to lead Ninh Binh only for a short period. Once the club stabilises, he is set to return to HAGL to continue working toward the team’s long-term objectives.
