The initiatives connect language lessons with practical situations and form part of the province’s education priorities for the 2026-2027 academic year.
A directive issued by the Provincial People’s Committee on August 17 called for stronger foreign language teaching and learning, including neighbouring countries’ languages where needed.
At Nguyen Dieu High School in Tuy Phuoc Dong commune, teachers are increasing classroom communication activities and creating more opportunities for students to practise outside regular lessons.
Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, head of the English Department, said teachers hold regular meetings to review lesson design, develop activities that strengthen communication and thinking in English, and share teaching methods, materials and technology applications.
Students practise English in simple situations, while presentations, projects and other assignments provide additional ways to assess their progress.
Thuy said limited facilities, equipment and opportunities for communication at the rural school meant the transition towards English as a second language would need to proceed gradually.
Principal Dang Tan Anh said the school provides time and facilities for departmental activities and encourages staff to work together on extracurricular and bilingual programmes.
At Kon Dong No. 1 Primary School in Mang Yang commune, exchanges, competitions and other activities supplement regular lessons to develop listening and speaking skills. The school has 774 students and 36 teachers in the 2026-2027 academic year.
Principal Pham Thi Tuyet said activities are tailored to children’s ages and allow them to practise simple conversational phrases, helping build their ability to respond in English and their interest in the language.
Luong The Vinh Secondary School in Quy Nhon ward is seeking to extend English use across educational activities and gradually introduce it into selected mathematics and natural sciences content.
Huynh Thi Huong, deputy head of the English-Arts-Physical Education Department, said the aim is to help students use English to access knowledge and communicate about academic subjects. Implementation would depend on teachers’ and students’ abilities.
The school plans to organise an arts programme called “Our Amazing Stage”, maintain its English Club and introduce a monthly bilingual youth radio programme jointly run by the English Department and the school’s Youth Union.
Huong said these activities would help students gradually move from studying English as a subject to using it as a medium for learning.
Community initiatives are also widening access. Since early 2026, the Duc Co commune Youth Union and Le Hoan High School have maintained free English classes for children in Lung Prong village every Sunday afternoon.
At Duc Co Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School, students presented books in Vietnamese, Jrai and English during activities marking Book and Reading Culture Day 2026.
The provincial Department of Education and Training also encouraged participation in the Internet-based English Olympic Contest, known as IOE, in an official dispatch dated August 20.
The initiative aims to encourage regular English practice and the use of information technology.
According to the department, the province began implementing programmes in the 2025-2026 academic year to strengthen foreign language education and gradually make English a second language in schools. Both cover the 2025-2035 period, with a vision to 2045.
Work will continue in 2026-2027, with schools developing activities suited to their conditions to give students more opportunities to practise and communicate in English.
