The Sub-Department of Fisheries under the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Quy Nhon Ward, released 10,000 juvenile barramundi into Thi Nai Lagoon to restore and develop local aquatic resources.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to conserve, regenerate, and enhance aquatic biodiversity in Thi Nai Lagoon, promoting the recovery of economically valuable species and supporting sustainable fisheries development in the region.

Nguyen Huu Nghia, Director of the Fisheries Sub-Department, highlighted that Gia Lai Province has significant potential for fisheries growth, with a 134-kilometer coastline and three large brackish water lagoons, Thi Nai, De Gi, and Tra O, spanning a combined area of around 8,000 hectares.

However, Nghia noted that climate change and overexploitation have led to serious degradation of aquatic resources. Releasing juvenile fish into natural habitats is therefore viewed as a practical approach to replenish stocks and restore ecological balance.

The release campaign also aims to raise public awareness of aquatic resource protection. Local fishermen are encouraged to avoid using illegal fishing methods and undersized mesh nets, thereby helping safeguard ecosystems, diversify aquatic products, and ensure sustainable fishing practices.
