(GLO) – Gia Lai province has made significant progress in digital transformation, with authorities, businesses, and farmers actively embracing technology to improve governance, competitiveness, and livelihoods.

Since late 2022, the Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee has launched a province-wide emulation movement focused on three pillars: digital government, digital economy, and digital society.

Guided by the principle “citizens and businesses at the center; technology as the tool; data as the core resource,” the initiative is now delivering measurable results.

Government transformation

All administrative agencies in Gia Lai now use electronic office systems, digital signatures, and interconnected electronic documents.

More than 2,200 procedures are available online, many at level 4, the highest e-government standard. At the commune level, officials are incentivized to improve online public service delivery through performance-based commendations.

Business and economic shift

The digital push extends into the private sector. Wecare Group JSC in Phu Tai Industrial Park has launched an online industrial supermarket platform serving thousands of customers nationwide. Director Trần Đăng Khôi said the move reduces costs, optimizes management, and expands market reach.

Currently, 100% of Gia Lai businesses use electronic invoices and e-tax declarations, while 67% of small and medium-sized firms have adopted digital platforms. The province’s technology innovation rate hit 17.3% in 2024, surpassing targets.

Agriculture and e-commerce

Farmers and cooperatives are also benefitting. Agricultural products such as coffee, rubber, pepper, and durian are sold on e-commerce platforms, expanding market access and stabilizing prices.

Nguyễn Thị Nga, Deputy Director of Nam Yang Agricultural and Service Cooperative, said online sales help avoid price manipulation and improve visibility.

Infrastructure and human resources

Gia Lai has invested heavily in digital infrastructure. Broadband coverage reaches 98% of villages and hamlets, and two international undersea cable landing stations provide high-capacity connectivity.

The province has also established 135 community digital technology teams to guide citizens in using online services, VNeID accounts, and cashless payments.

Digital transformation is visible in healthcare and education, with electronic health records connected from provincial to commune levels and student records digitized for long-term accuracy.

Challenges and future goals

Despite advances, remote areas face infrastructure gaps and residents remain cautious about technology adoption due to investment costs. The province plans to increase funding and training for disadvantaged localities.

Looking ahead, Gia Lai aims to become a regional hub for high technology and innovation. Projects in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, big data, and digital industries are underway, supported by research and training centers at Quang Trung Software Park - Gia Lai and TMA Solutions Innovation Park.

Under a 2025–2030 plan, Gia Lai will train more than 2,100 integrated circuit design engineers, 380 practical engineers, and conduct thousands of specialized training sessions to strengthen its technology ecosystem.

Provincial Chairman Phạm Anh Tuấn stressed: “Digital transformation is not a temporary task but a strategic driver. The movement must be judged by results, not formality, with rewards for leading units and support for disadvantaged areas.”
