(GLO) – A healthcare couple in Gia Lai Province, has made 48 emergency blood donations since 2022, saving numerous patients in critical condition.

Huỳnh Hoàng Vương, 38, Deputy Head of Bàu Cạn Commune Health Station, and his wife, Nguyễn Thị Hồng, 35, a healthcare staff member at Chi Lăng High School, have actively donated blood whenever emergencies arise.

Vương has contributed 37 times, three whole blood and 34 platelet donations, while Hồng has given whole blood 11 times.

Both are members of the Gia Lai blood donation club and view voluntary blood donation as both a duty and a joy. “Every drop of blood is a chance at life for a patient. Whenever we receive an urgent call and are eligible, we are ready to donate,” Vương said.

The couple frequently responds at all hours, regardless of weather or distance. “There were times when I had to turn back in heavy rain, traveling dozens of kilometers to donate blood. Though exhausting, saving a patient always motivates me,” Vương recalled.

Hồng, who began donating blood in 2011, has given about 30 times in total. Her most recent donation, in July 2025, saved a teacher critically injured in a traffic accident. “I was very happy to learn she survived,” she said.

Beyond their personal contributions, the couple also encourages relatives, friends, and colleagues to participate in the voluntary blood donation. They involve their two children in charity, such as donating hair to cancer patients, and instill values of compassion and responsibility.

The couple’s dedication extends beyond blood donation. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Vương volunteered in Bình Dương Province, serving at Việt Đức Field Hospital No. 3. For his efforts, he was honoured in 2021 and 2022 from the Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee.

Their work has earned recognition from the Gia Lai blood donation club and the provincial Red Cross Society. “They are exemplary volunteers, always ready to donate blood in emergencies and inspire others,” said Trần Vũ, head of the Warm Blood Club.

Officials credit families like theirs for strengthening the blood donation movement in Gia Lai, ensuring timely support for patients in need.
