More than 50 delegates from 20 countries and territories are attending the 45th International Conference on Physics in Collision in Gia Lai province, marking the event’s return to the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) after 10 years.

The conference, known as PIC 2026, opened on October 6 and runs until October 9 at ICISE in South Quy Nhon Ward. It is organised jointly by the Rencontres du Vietnam Science Association and ICISE.

Professors, scientists, early-career researchers and doctoral candidates have gathered to examine recent experimental and theoretical findings in particle physics and related fields.

The programme covers Higgs and electroweak physics, quantum chromodynamics, physics beyond the Standard Model, flavour physics and spectroscopy, neutrinos and heavy ions.

Other topics include astroparticle physics, searches for dark matter, gravitational waves and cosmology.

Participants include Greg Landsberg of Brown University in the United States; Jean-Marie Brom of France’s Hubert Curien Multidisciplinary Institute; Sonia Kabana of the University of Tarapacá in Chile; and Livia Ludhova, affiliated with Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and GSI in Germany.

Also attending are Graziano Rossi of Sejong University in South Korea, Elisabetta Gallo of DESY in Germany, and Jiahui Wei and Yanping Huang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of High Energy Physics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Phan Ho Giang, deputy director of Gia Lai’s Department of Science and Technology, said the conference provided an opportunity for scientists to exchange new experimental findings and discuss their significance.

He said the province viewed science and education as strategic priorities for development and would continue supporting ICISE’s role in connecting Vietnamese and international scientists.

That support aims to encourage lasting research partnerships and interest in science among younger generations.

Since 2013, ICISE has welcomed more than 19,000 scientists from 62 countries, including 19 Nobel laureates.

The Physics in Collision conference series began in 1981 in Blacksburg, Virginia, in the United States. For more than four decades, it has provided a forum for researchers to discuss the latest findings and key questions in particle physics.

ICISE previously hosted the series’ 36th conference in 2016.
