E-magazine Gia Lai launches Quantum Year 2026 to bring advanced science closer to the public and young people
The programme will gather scientists, experts, businesses and young talents from Vietnam and abroad, making it one of Gia Lai Province's flagship science and technology events of 2026.
As part of the initiative, Gia Lai Newspaper and Radio & Television interviewed Lâm Hải Giang, Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, about the province's vision for the event and its efforts to promote quantum technology among the wider community.
There are two important reasons why Gia Lai has chosen 2026 as the Quantum Year.
First, the Government has issued a list of strategic technologies, in which quantum technology is identified as a priority area for development in the coming period.
This is an inevitable trend as many countries around the world are making significant investments and competing to develop new foundational technologies, alongside artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
Second, Gia Lai has been preparing for this for many years. Through the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), the province has established research groups focused on quantum technology.
At the same time, the province regularly organizes international conferences, seminars, and specialized schools, attracting many scientists, researchers, and experts in this field to collaborate and conduct research.
Building on this foundation, the province aims to organize the Gia Lai Quantum Year 2026 as a milestone to connect scientific resources, spread the value of quantum technology to the community, and create new momentum for local scientific, technological, and innovative development, thereby contributing to the nation’s sustainable development strategy.

Gia Lai is approaching quantum technology along two main directions.
The first is to bring quantum technology closer to the public, especially young people. That’s why we are organizing the International Hackathon on Quantum Computing for Social Development.
This is the first time such a competition is being held in Vietnam, attracting participants from 26 countries. After the selection round, 100 members were chosen to compete in the finals in Gia Lai.
Our goal is not only to promote research and the application of quantum technology in daily life, but also to ignite a passion for science among the youth.
From the real-world problems presented in the competition, we will connect teams with businesses and investors to further incubate and develop quantum technology applications in the future.
The second direction is to develop quantum technology in tandem with science and technology, by forming strong quantum research groups.

The International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) will continue to bring together scientists from Southeast Asia and around the world, especially overseas Vietnamese intellectuals who have achieved significant success in quantum technology, to promote both basic and applied research.
Rather than racing to develop quantum hardware like many other countries, we are focusing on software and deploying applications that align with the province’s development orientation.
Through the Gia Lai Quantum Year 2026, we hope to send a message to young people that science and technology are not distant concepts, but begin with each person’s passion, creativity, and willingness to explore.
If you have passion, a desire to innovate, and the perseverance to pursue your goals, you can absolutely succeed. We hope to see more and more young people interested in, approaching, and choosing the path of scientific research and innovation, contributing to the development of both the country and Gia Lai province.
