The election took place on April 21 at the Provincial Convention Center in Quy Nhon Ward during the Association’s first congress for the new term. The event gathered 232 delegates alongside senior officials, including Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, and Nguyen Thi Phong Vu, Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Propaganda and Mass Mobilization.
The congress elected a 15-member Executive Committee. At its first session, the committee appointed Hồ Xuân Ánh as president, with Tran Quoc Anh and Vu Thi Nga serving as vice presidents.
A report presented at the congress highlighted that, despite structural reforms and administrative challenges in recent years, the Association maintained its role as a key political, social and professional body. It contributed to ideological stability, strengthened social consensus, and supported the province’s political agenda.
Membership expanded to 530 journalists, up by 84 from the beginning of the previous term. Professional capacity also improved, with 25 training courses delivered to more than 1,400 participants over five years.
Journalistic output showed measurable progress. A total of 937 entries were submitted to provincial journalism awards, with 378 winning prizes. At the national level, 167 works were entered, several reaching final rounds. Meanwhile, 268 high-quality works received financial support totaling more than 1 billion VND (approximately 40,000 USD).
Looking ahead, the Association underscored the need for comprehensive reform as digital technology reshapes the media landscape and intensifies competition. It aims to build a corps of journalists who are politically grounded, ethically strong, professionally skilled and technologically adept.
Nguyen Thi Phong Vu called on the Association to implement its guiding principle of “solidarity and enhancement of political and professional ethics,” while aligning operations with both provincial priorities and modern journalism trends.
She also urged journalists to improve the quality of reporting by ensuring timeliness, accuracy and depth, while focusing on real-life issues, promoting positive role models, and strengthening public trust.
The congress additionally elected 10 official and two alternate delegates to attend the 12th National Congress of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.
