Đỗ Đức Thanh elected Chairman of Gia Lai’s Vietnam Youth Federation for 2026-2029 term

Đỗ Đức Thanh was elected Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Federation of Gia Lai Province on Monday as delegates at the organization's first provincial congress following the merger of the former Gia Lai and Bình Định chapters set priorities for the 2026-2029 term.

The congress, held at the Provincial Youth Activity Center in Quy Nhon Nam Ward, brought together 195 delegates representing more than 796,000 members and young people across the province.

The event marked the first provincial-level congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation since the merger of the two provincial chapters, establishing a unified organization serving an expanded area spanning highlands, border regions, coastal areas and island communes.

Delegates elected the first Executive Committee for the 2026–2029 term, consisting of 45 members, along with the Secretariat, Inspection Committee and other key leadership positions.

Đỗ Đức Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, was elected Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Youth Federation. The congress also elected four Vice Chairmen: Nguyễn Tấn Hưng, Hồ Trần Phú Nghĩa, Vũ Hồng Quân and Phan Văn Khoa.

Accepting his election, Thanh thanked delegates for their confidence and pledged that the newly elected Executive Committee would promote solidarity, responsibility, innovation and creativity while implementing the congress resolution, strengthening the Federation and expanding youth engagement across the province.

The congress adopted the action slogan, "Gia Lai Youth: Solidarity - Creativity - Identity - Integration - Development", and approved a development agenda featuring 10 key targets, three breakthrough tasks and five major projects and models for the 2026-2029 term.

The priorities focus on strengthening youth unity, supporting young workers, promoting entrepreneurship and digital transformation, preserving cultural identity, advancing economic development and encouraging community volunteerism.

Reviewing achievements during the 2024–2026 period, delegates heard that the Federation maintained 251 volunteer teams, which carried out 1,017 projects and initiatives supporting new rural development.

At the grassroots level, 275 projects and initiatives were implemented with a combined value of nearly 2.5 billion VND (approximately USD 96,000).

The Federation also maintained 187 Digital Literacy teams, which organized 563 activities to improve residents' digital knowledge and skills. Major volunteer programmes, including the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, Exam Season Support, Green Summer, Pink Holiday and Green March, continued to be implemented across the province.

Addressing the congress, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyễn Thị Thanh Lịch praised the Federation's achievements and called on youth organizations to continue leading efforts in digital transformation, innovation, entrepreneurship, new rural development, tourism promotion, cultural preservation, environmental protection, and national defence and security.

She said she believed Gia Lai's young people would continue contributing to the province's rapid, sustainable and culturally rich development through their dynamism, creativity and commitment.

Nguyễn Kim Quy, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Standing Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation, urged the provincial chapter to further innovate the "I Love My Country" movement through practical initiatives linked to national development and defence.

He also called for greater efforts to support the comprehensive development of young people, broaden youth solidarity and improve the quality of the Federation's leadership, expressing confidence that the newly elected Executive Committee would lead the organization effectively during the new term.

10 key targets for the 2026–2029 term:

- 100% of officials, members, and at least 80% of youth will be informed and educated about the resolutions of the Party, Youth Union, and Federation, as well as state policies and laws; provided with information on national defense, security, border and maritime sovereignty, and skills for self-protection in cyberspace.

- The rate of youth solidarity and gathering across the province will reach 80% by the end of the term.

- 100% of commune- and ward-level Federation chapters will annually implement at least one model or solution to innovate methods of youth solidarity and gathering.

- 100% of commune- and ward-level chapters will annually organize activities to preserve and promote ethnic and local cultural identities.

- Support at least 50 startup ideas or projects; 100 youth economic models or OCOP products led by youth to be promoted and connected to consumption platforms.

- Annually provide career counseling and job introduction for at least 50,000 youth.

- 100% of commune- and ward-level chapters will have activities supporting youth in enhancing digital capacity, using online public services, e-commerce, cashless payments, and digital signatures.

- At least 500,000 members and youth will participate in volunteer activities.

- 100% of commune- and ward-level chapters will annually organize at least one activity for environmental protection, green transformation, or tree planting.

- 100% of key officials at the commune and ward level will receive professional training at least once during the term; 100% of commune- and ward-level chapters will update data on members, youth, clubs, teams, and groups.

14 booths showcasing OCOP products and innovation

As part of the congress, the Organizing Committee set up 14 booths to display and introduce OCOP products, products applying science and technology, innovative products, and outstanding youth products.

The exhibition space contributed to promoting local specialties, connecting product consumption, and spreading the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of Gia Lai youth in this new phase of development.
