Gia Lai: Widespread devastation in the aftermath of storm

Thousands of trees were uprooted, metal roofs were twisted, and many structures suffered severe damage, these are the initial losses reported by Gia Lai Newspaper and Radio & Television journalists after Storm No. 13 made landfall last night (November 6).

According to reports from journalists on the morning of November 7 in areas of the former Quy Nhon City, many trees along major streets were uprooted or knocked down. Infrastructure such as traffic signal poles and electric poles were also toppled by the strong winds of Storm No. 13.

In Tuy Phuoc Dong commune, heavy rain and strong winds last night also caused damage to several structures, including schools and homes. Rising water levels led to flooding on many roads. Residents are now urgently working to recover from the storm's aftermath.

According to journalists, on the morning of November 7, the weather in An Khe ward was quite cool, with light sunshine breaking through. However, due to the strong winds during the storm, some doors, corrugated iron roofs, and signboards in the area were damaged or torn off, and several trees were broken or uprooted.

Immediately after the storm passed, residents took the initiative to clean up the environment, clear fallen trees, check electrical systems, repair damaged homes, and quickly restore daily life. The water level in the Ba River rose slightly but not significantly, causing no impact on the lives or production activities of nearby communities.

According to reports from 26 eastern and 14 western communes and wards in Gia Lai province, as of 5 a.m. on November 7, Storm No. 13 had left two people dead (in An Nhon ward) and two others injured.

Approximately 500 houses collapsed, more than 3,000 lost their roofs, one boat sank, and three transportation points suffered landslides (in An Vinh commune).
