(GLO) – Customs authorities at Quy Nhon Port have strengthened control and supervision measures to expedite trade flows while combating smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal transport of prohibited goods, officials said.

Amid rising import-export activity following the merger of Gia Lai province, Quy Nhon Port Customs reported a 6.9% year-on-year increase in processed declarations, reaching 44,313 by September 14.

Of these, 62.89% were cleared through the green channel, 33.31% through the yellow channel, and only 3.8% required full inspection under the red channel.

Authorities said the use of an automated clearance system has accelerated customs processing, reduced congestion at gates and warehouses, cut costs for businesses, and improved transparency.

The system also issues early warnings on violations such as misdeclaring product names, types or origins, under-declaring codes for specialized management, or exploiting regulatory loopholes.

To date, 13 enterprises have been sanctioned for violations ranging from non-compliance with standards to misdeclaration of goods’ quality, value, or origin.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Binh, Head of Quy Nhon Port Customs, said his department frequently engages with businesses to provide guidance, address issues, and warn about risks and penalties to ensure compliance.

“We regularly organize dialogues to help businesses proactively follow the law, avoid infractions, and protect their reputation,” he said.

The department has also partnered with warehouse operators, including Quy Nhon Port JSC, Thi Nai Port JSC, and Tan Cang Mien Trung JSC, to upgrade surveillance camera systems linked to Customs, bolstering port monitoring. Coordination with the Border Guard, Coast Guard, and anti-smuggling forces has created a comprehensive enforcement network.

Local businesses praised the measures for promoting transparency and fair competition. Mr. Phan Hong Quy, Director of Hoang Giang Trading Co., Ltd., which exports mattresses, foam, and rattan-style plastic furniture, said: “We choose Quy Nhon Port Customs because of its convenience and transparency. Enhanced supervision helps strengthen our reputation with partners.”

Looking ahead, Mr. Binh said the department will further deploy information technology, provide prompt support to businesses, and enhance inspection of import-export goods to swiftly detect and handle violations. These efforts aim to attract more enterprises, increase state budget revenues, and reinforce Quy Nhon Port’s role as a trade hub for the region.
