Vietnam’s passport has risen two places to rank 90th globally, according to the Henley Passport Index 2025, updated in December, reflecting a modest improvement in international mobility for Vietnamese citizens.

The latest ranking shows that holders of Vietnamese passports can access 50 destinations without a traditional visa, either through visa-free entry, e-visas, visas on arrival or electronic travel authorisations (ETA), out of a total of 199 countries and territories assessed.

In terms of openness, Vietnam ranks 80th worldwide, offering visa exemptions to nearly 40 destinations, the index shows.

Singapore continues to top the global ranking, retaining its position as the world’s most powerful passport. Singaporean citizens can enter 193 countries and territories without needing a visa in advance.

The Henley Passport Index evaluates 199 passports against 227 global destinations and is updated monthly. Rankings are determined by the number of destinations passport holders can access without prior visa requirements.

As such, the index is widely regarded as a key benchmark for assessing passport strength and international mobility in a global context.
