Bong Son Regional General Hospital has accelerated the adoption of advanced surgical and diagnostic techniques in 2025, significantly improving treatment outcomes and meeting rising healthcare demand, hospital leaders said.

According to Director Dr. Tran Quoc Viet, the hospital has implemented 16 new technical services across otorhinolaryngology, orthopedic trauma, urology, and laboratory diagnostics after proactive technology transfers from major medical centers.

The facility reported that all professional targets set by the provincial Department of Health were met or surpassed, with bed occupancy reaching about 108%.

A major milestone was the successful completion of seven endoscopic surgeries on the maxillary, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses, following a technology transfer from Ho Chi Minh City Ear - Nose and Throat Hospital. The hospital also sent two doctors for hands-on endoscopic colectomy training at the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, many advanced techniques are being routinely performed at Bong Son General Hospital, contributing to improved treatment outcomes for patients. These include: endoscopic sinus surgeries; septoplasty and middle turbinate resection; adenoidectomy; maxillary sinusotomy for fungal removal and nasal bleeding control; PFNA nailing for intertrochanteric femoral fractures under C-arm guidance; intra-articular injections; flexible and percutaneous endoscopic lithotripsy for urinary stones; complete blood count analysis and hematology testing using laser cell counters.

ENT specialists underwent three months of intensive training in Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for new procedures, including endoscopic opening of key sinus structures. These advanced surgeries, including endoscopic sinus operations, septoplasty, middle turbinate resection, adenoidectomy, and fungal maxillary sinusotomy, are now being routinely performed.

Orthopedic and urology capabilities have also expanded, with techniques such as PFNA nailing for intertrochanteric femoral fractures, intra-articular injections, and both flexible and percutaneous endoscopic lithotripsy for urinary stones. Laboratory services now include laser-based hematology analysis.

Young specialists, including Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, said mastering these procedures poses challenges due to the complexity of nasal and sinus anatomy. With support from senior clinicians and higher-level hospitals, Dr. Tung’s team has successfully conducted more than 20 nasal and sinus surgeries.

Looking ahead to 2026, Bong Son Regional General Hospital plans to continue technology transfers with leading institutions such as Ho Chi Minh City Ear - Nose and Throat Hospital; University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City; Da Nang Oncology Hospital; Gia Lai Provincial General Hospital; and Quang Nam General Hospital. The hospital has proposed 28 new services for transfer, including total laparoscopic hysterectomy, percutaneous nephrolithotripsy, laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, transverse colectomy, and spinal techniques such as TLIF and lumbar disc herniation surgery.

The multi-specialty Department plans to invest in a tissue morcellator system to shorten operating times and reduce blood loss, while pursuing transfers of frontal sinusotomy and other advanced ENT procedures. These improvements aim to ensure residents in northeastern areas of the province can access high-tech medical care locally.

Dr. Viet said the hospital will continue consultations, remote training, and professional exchanges with central and provincial hospitals, and will prioritize upskilling doctors, nurses, and technicians, particularly younger staff, to strengthen its capacity to perform advanced procedures on site.

Bong Son General Hospital has a capacity of 520 beds, with an average treatment duration of 5.6 days per patient. The hospital receives an average of 938 outpatient visits per day, with peak days recording up to 1,239 visits. The rate of procedures performed in accordance with the hospital’s designated level is 71.2%, while the rate of higher-level procedures accounts for 29.4%.
