Gia Lai province has inspected two community-based tourism sites as it considers selecting a destination to represent the province in Vietnam’s 2026 “Best Rural Tourism Destination” competition.

The field inspection on September 12 was conducted by the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism at Kép Village in Ia Ly commune and Mơ Hra - Đáp Village in Tơ Tung commune.

The assessment will provide a basis for advising the Provincial People’s Committee on which site should enter the nationwide competition, which is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Inspectors evaluated the sites against four groups of criteria: unique tourism products; community value; sustainable development and risk management; and tourism promotion and digital transformation.

The assessment covers the use of local landscapes, indigenous culture, cuisine and specialties, as well as experiential tourism products, traditional crafts, folk performances, accommodation and dining services, and distinctive souvenirs.

Community participation is also assessed, including the creation of jobs and income, preservation of cultural heritage and traditional crafts, and protection of rural landscapes.

Inspectors also examine environmental protection, waste and wastewater management, tourist safety, public order, fire prevention and control, and food safety and hygiene.

Digital transformation is another key area, with the team reviewing the use of digital technology for tourism promotion, database development, digital maps, QR codes and electronic narration.

The assessment also considers systems for managing and recording visitor numbers, revenue and tourist feedback.

Results of the national competition are expected to be announced in early December 2026.

The competition aims to recognize exemplary rural tourism models and tap the potential of agriculture, culture, traditional villages and ecological resources.

It also seeks to improve tourism products and services, create jobs, raise local incomes and promote sustainable rural tourism development.
