A series of youth-led initiatives across Gia Lai Province are helping children develop leadership skills, creativity and compassion through practical educational and community activities held to mark the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization.

Local authorities, schools and Young Pioneer Councils have recently organised a range of programmes aimed at creating a safe and supportive environment where children can study, train and develop comprehensively.

On April 23, the Youth Union and Young Pioneer Council of Quy Nhon Nam Ward organised the “Excellent Team Leader” contest for the 2025-2026 academic year, attracting 34 contestants from nine teams across the ward.

Under the theme “Confidence - Skills - Creativity”, participants competed in challenges testing their knowledge of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, Semaphore and Morse code practice, knot-tying, trail sign identification, team rituals and leadership abilities.

Bùi Thị Thanh Loan, Secretary of the Ward Youth Union and Chairwoman of the Quy Nhon Nam Ward Young Pioneer Council, said the contest helped improve the quality of local Young Pioneer activities while identifying promising future leaders.

Trần Gia Khang, Deputy Team Leader of Nguyễn Văn Cừ Primary School and winner of the primary school category, said the event allowed contestants to strengthen their skills and learn from peers from other schools.

On May 12, the Youth Union and Young Pioneer Council of Pờ Tó Commune held the “Young Voices” singing contest themed “Uncle Ho and Children, Children and Uncle Ho,” with six teams participating.

The performances celebrated President Ho Chi Minh, the traditions of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization and the aspirations of the younger generation.

Nguyễn Mai Phương, a fifth-grade student from Võ Thị Sáu Primary School, won first prize and said the competition gave children an opportunity to showcase their talents and teamwork skills.

Across the province, Young Pioneer Councils have also introduced initiatives promoting social responsibility and environmental awareness.

At Ia Grai Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School in Ia Grai Commune, students have participated in the “Small Plan House” model, which encourages the collection and sorting of recyclable materials including paper, plastic bottles and cans.

The school has also launched the “Piggy Bank to Help Friends Go to School” campaign. On May 11, funds raised through the initiative and the recycling project were used to support three students facing financial difficulties.

Ksor Thư, a student from class 8A, said participating in the programme made her happy because she could contribute to helping classmates in need.

Trần Thị Kim Loan, Head of the school’s Young Pioneer Team, said such activities help students learn to share and care for others while developing positive values from an early age.

Meanwhile, the Young Pioneer Council of Thống Nhất Ward launched the “Study Corner for Children” project on May 12, donating seven study corners to disadvantaged students across the ward.

Lê Nguyễn Thành Đạt, a second-grade student at Trần Đại Nghĩa Primary School, said he was grateful for the support and would strive to study harder.

The provincial Young Pioneer Council has also implemented programmes including “Lighting up Gia Lai children’s dreams” and “Beloved blue shirts - Accompanying children to school”, providing thousands of gifts, school supplies, bicycles and clothing to children in need.

Nguyễn Chí Hiếu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Chairman of the Provincial Young Pioneer Council, said the province’s initiatives were designed to create healthy, safe and experiential learning environments for children.

“Through these practical and close-to-home activities, children not only develop skills and a sense of responsibility but also nurture their aspirations and learn to live with love and compassion”, Hiếu said.

“This is how the Young Pioneer Organization is nurturing today’s ‘green shoots’ to become responsible citizens for themselves, their families and the homeland in the future”, he added.
