Ms Dang Thi Thuy, head of the Young Pioneer Organization at Chu Van An Primary School in Pleiku Ward, has been awarded the 2026 “Pink Swallow” Award by the Central Council of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization in recognition of her contributions to children’s education and youth activities.

Born in 1991, Thuy has spent more than 12 years working with children and Young Pioneer movements, focusing on creating practical and meaningful activities that help students develop character, life skills, and social responsibility.

Her initiatives include programs such as “Green Warriors - Joining Hands for the Environment,” “Experiential and Creative Recess,” and “A Thousand Good Deeds Flower Garden”, where students are encouraged to participate directly in activities that strengthen communication, cooperation, and community awareness.

Traditional education programs, including “Memory Journey - Connecting Pride,” “Meaningful Meals - Wholehearted Gratitude”, “Loving Cards – Sending Thanks”, and cultural experiences linked to the Central Highlands, have also become popular among students, helping foster patriotism, national pride, and appreciation for local cultural identity.

“Participating in activities organized by Ms. Thuy has made me more confident and outgoing,” said Dao Tran Thao Nguyen, a fifth-grade student at Chu Van An Primary School. “I especially enjoy the gratitude programs and activities supporting classmates in difficult circumstances. They taught me that besides studying well, we should also know how to love, share, and help others”.

Rather than positioning students as passive participants, Thuy encourages them to take leading roles in school activities, from folk games and recycled crafts to video production and gratitude campaigns. She said even small changes in students’ behaviour represent meaningful success.

“A successful activity does not have to be grand or extravagant,” Thuy said. “If, after joining, a student becomes more confident, more willing to help friends, knows how to say thank you, or picks up trash and puts it in the right place, then the activity has value”.

She believes the most important quality for a Young Pioneer leader is patience and genuine care for children. According to Thuy, youth activities should create an environment where students can practice skills, express themselves confidently, and improve every day.

Alongside life skills education, Thuy has integrated digital technology into school activities through video competitions, QR-code campaigns, online recognition boards, and the “Good Deeds” application. Several initiatives developed at Chu Van An Primary School have since been adopted by other schools in the area.

Nguyen Chi Hieu, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Chairman of the Provincial Young Pioneer Council, described Thuy as one of the province’s most dynamic and creative Young Pioneer leaders.

“The ‘Pink Swallow’ Award is a well-deserved recognition of her persistent efforts and dedication to the care and education of children,” Hieu said.

School leaders said Thuy’s approachable manner, flexibility, and sense of responsibility have helped make Chu Van An Primary School’s Young Pioneer Team a leading model for children’s activities in the locality.

Over the past six years, the school’s Young Pioneer Team has provided more than 600 gifts worth over 200 million VND (approximately $7,700) to disadvantaged students through initiatives such as “Circle of Friendship” and “Piggy Bank – Sharing Love.”

Dinh Thi Phuong, Vice Principal of Chu Van An Primary School, said Thuy had consistently contributed to Youth Union and Young Pioneer activities at ward, city, and provincial levels.

“With her contributions, she is truly deserving of the ‘Pink Swallow’ title in 2026,” Phuong said.

For Thuy, the award represents motivation rather than a final achievement.

“I hope every student feels happy coming to school, proud to participate in group activities, and understands that even small good deeds can help beautify their classroom, school, and hometown,” she said.

Thuy said simple actions such as saying thank you, sharing notebooks, or helping others each day are the seeds of kindness from which meaningful change can grow.
