Young chess player Hoàng Tấn Vinh honoured by Ministry of National Defence

Young chess player Hoàng Tấn Vinh from Gia Lai has received a Certificate of Merit from Viet Nam’s Ministry of National Defence in recognition of his outstanding achievements at international competitions, including medals at the World Youth Chess Championship.

The honour was presented at a commendation ceremony held on December 26 at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters in Hanoi, recognising officers, coaches and athletes of the Military Sports Delegation for strong performances at the 33rd SEA Games and other international events.

At the ceremony, Hoàng Tấn Vinh, who represents the Military Sports Center under the Department of Military Training and Military Schools, was cited for winning one silver and one bronze medal at the World Youth Chess Championship.

The event highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to acknowledge and encourage the dedication and contributions of officials, coaches and athletes within the Military Sports Delegation, while motivating them to continue training, competing and contributing to national sporting success.

Hoàng Tấn Vinh is currently a fifth-grade student (class 5.7) at Le Quy Don Primary School (Dien Hong Ward, Gia Lai Province). He previously won a gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Youth Chess Championship (Malaysia); a silver medal in blitz chess and a bronze medal in rapid chess in the U10 category at the 2025 World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships (Greece); and a gold medal in the U10 category at the 2025 ECHEss Open Cup (Hanoi).

Most recently, at the 2025 Asian Youth Chess Championship (Thailand), he secured two team gold medals in standard and blitz chess, one team silver medal in rapid chess, and one individual bronze medal in blitz chess.
