Hoàng Tấn Vinh clinches 4 medals at 2025 Asian Youth Chess Championship

Young Vietnamese chess prodigy Hoàng Tấn Vinh from Gia Lai secured four medals at the 2025 Asian Youth Chess Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, held from November 20 - 30. Competing in the U10 category, Vinh contributed significantly to Vietnam’s medal tally.

Vinh won two team gold medals in the standard and blitz events, a team silver in rapid chess, and an individual bronze in the blitz category, showcasing remarkable consistency across all three formats.

The 27th edition of the Asian Youth Chess Championship featured 697 participants aged U8 to U18 from 33 national federations.

Vietnam led the field in participation with 71 players, ahead of India (68) and Kazakhstan (58). Competitors contested in standard, rapid, and blitz events, highlighting the region’s growing chess talent.

Vinh’s achievement underscores Vietnam’s rising prominence in youth chess at the continental level.

Hoàng Tấn Vinh is a student in class 5.7 at Lê Quý Đôn Primary School, Diên Hồng Ward, Gia Lai Province. He previously won a gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Youth Chess Championship (Malaysia); a silver medal in blitz and a bronze in rapid chess in the U10 category at the 2025 World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships (Greece); and a gold medal in the U10 category at the 2025 ECHEss Open Cup (Hanoi), among other achievements.
