The two-day event, jointly organized by the People’s Committees of Hội Phú, Pleiku and Diên Hồng wards, features competitions across four distances: the 2.5 km Kids Run for athletes aged 6-11, as well as 5 km, 10 km and 21 km races.
Runners will compete along routes passing through the Hội Phú stream embankment and several major roads, including Nguyễn Văn Linh, Sư Vạn Hạnh, Nguyễn Viết Xuân, Hùng Vương, Trường Chinh and Trần Nhật Duật streets, as well as internal roads within Diên Hồng Park.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mai Văn Hoàn, Vice Chairman of the Hội Phú Ward People’s Committee and Head of the Organizing Committee, said the annual event aims to promote the movement “All people exercise following the example of Great Uncle Hồ”, while encouraging public fitness, community solidarity and the development of the running movement across Gia Lai Province.
During the ceremony, organizers also handed over the rotating flag for the 47th edition of the race in 2027 to the Pleiku Ward People’s Committee, which will host next year’s event.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, 340 young athletes competed in the 2.5 km Kids Run. Kiều Đức Huy won the boys’ category, while Trần Tạ Tâm Như secured first place in the girls’ division.
Awards were presented later the same evening to the top four finishers in both categories.
The 21 km race is scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. on May 17, followed by the 10 km and 5 km races at 30-minute intervals.
