Eighteen-year-old martial artist Trần Nguyễn Bảo Ngọc has been named one of 15 recipients of the 2025 Ngô Mây Award, marking a significant milestone in a career defined by discipline and international success.

A member of the Pleiku Sports Training and Competition Center, Ngọc has spent more than six years training intensively in wushu, muay and kickboxing, earning a reputation as one of the country’s most promising young athletes.

Her latest recognition follows a series of achievements at both national and international competitions. Among her standout results are a gold medal at the 2025 National Age Group Kickboxing Championship and another gold at the 2023 National Muay Club Championship, alongside multiple silver and bronze medals at youth and national tournaments.

Ngọc has also proven her ability on the global stage. In 2024, she secured a bronze medal at the World Youth Kickboxing Championship in Hungary. A year later, she added two more international bronzes, at the Kickboxing World Cup in Thailand and the Asian Muay Championship in Thái Nguyên.

Born into a family with a strong sporting background, Ngọc was introduced to martial arts at an early age through her father, a traditional martial arts and wushu coach. What began as an interest in fitness and self-defense developed into a long-term pursuit.

By sixth grade, she had committed to formal training. Supported by her family, she quickly adapted and demonstrated both natural ability and determination.

Balancing elite-level sport with academic commitments has been one of her greatest challenges. During peak training periods, her daily schedule begins at 4:30 a.m. and continues late into the evening, combining rigorous practice sessions with schoolwork.

“There were moments when I felt discouraged because my body was exhausted”, Ngọc said. “But I reminded myself to keep going to achieve my goals”.

Coaches describe her as disciplined and resilient. “She is gentle in daily life, but strong and determined in the ring,” said kickboxing coach Trần Thị Kiều Nga.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Ngọc has maintained solid academic performance, reflecting a high level of discipline and time management.

Her efforts have earned multiple commendations, including two certificates of merit from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and three from the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee. In 2024, she was named an Outstanding Young Citizen of Gia Lai Province.

According to Phan Văn Hường, Deputy Director of the Pleiku Center for Sports Training and Competition, Ngọc possesses the technical ability, competitive mindset and determination needed to reach higher levels.

With the Ngô Mây Award now added to her list of achievements, Ngọc is widely seen as a rising figure in Vietnamese martial arts, with ambitions to continue competing and succeeding on both national and international stages.

The Ngô Mây Award is a prestigious honor named after Heroic Martyr Ngô Mây, presented to outstanding young individuals in Gia Lai Province who have made significant contributions and harbor noble ambitions, daring to take action and dedicate themselves to the nation and the community.
