Held at Quy Nhon Beach under the theme “Journey to the Blue Sea,” the Quy Nhon – ZBeach SUP Race 2026 formed part of activities marking National Tourism Year – Gia Lai 2026. The event was jointly organised by the local ward People’s Committee and ZBEACH Co., Ltd.

The race attracted a mix of professional and amateur paddlers, as well as tourists and local residents, turning the shoreline into a lively sporting venue and a gathering point for water sports enthusiasts.

Competitors took part in multiple categories, including a 300-metre fun race for beginners, a 2,000-metre open race for experienced female athletes, and a 2,500-metre open race for experienced male athletes.

Organisers said the event aimed to expand the appeal of stand-up paddleboarding within the community while creating a platform for athletes to test their skills in a natural coastal setting.

Moments of light-hearted mishaps added to the atmosphere, with several participants falling into the water, drawing laughter from spectators.

David Monoly, a tourist from the United Kingdom, described his first SUP experience in Quy Nhon as both challenging and memorable.

“This was my first time trying paddleboarding. I fell into the water about 50 times,” he said, adding that he was relieved to reach the finish line without needing assistance.

Despite the difficulties, Monoly praised the local coastline, highlighting its appeal for nature-based activities and calling for its preservation.

Alongside first-time participants, seasoned athletes delivered strong performances. Trương Thị Thu Thảo of Ho Chi Minh City secured first place in both the women’s 300-metre and 2,000-metre events, attributing her success to early preparation and familiarity with the course.

She described Quy Nhon’s waters as both calming and technically demanding, offering ideal conditions for competition.

Local officials said the race aligns with broader efforts to position Quy Nhon as a dynamic coastal destination that integrates tourism with sports development.

“The event reflects our strategy to promote green, safe and environmentally friendly tourism, especially through marine sports,” said Phan Tuấn Hoàng, Standing Vice Chairman of the local People’s Committee.
