The Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union has launched a coordinated campaign to support the construction and repair of homes for young people and disadvantaged households affected by severe storms and floods, mobilizing financial aid, volunteer labor and social resources.

Under a plan titled Gia Lai Youth Join Hands to Support the Construction and Repair of Housing for People Affected by Typhoon No. 13 and Floods in 2025, the initiative targets households whose homes collapsed, were swept away or suffered damage of 50% or more.

Priority is given to poor, near-poor and policy beneficiary families, particularly those headed by Youth Union members in heavily affected communes and wards.

At the provincial level, the Youth Union aims to support the construction of at least 10 new homes, with financial assistance ranging from 30-60 million VND (USD 1,200-2,400) per household, to be completed by January 31, 2026.

A further 10 homes are to receive repair support of 5-10 million VND (USD 200-400) each, to be completed by December 31, 2025. Local Youth Union branches are also mobilizing volunteer labor to assist with building and repairs.

On December 29, the Provincial Youth Union visited and provided financial support to two Youth Union members facing particularly difficult circumstances.

One recipient, Lù Lê Trung Tín, 20, from Tuy Phuoc Bac commune, received 30 million VND (USD 1,200) after his family’s house was completely destroyed by the storm. Tín, who works night shifts at a small eatery to support his ill mother, said the funds would help him repay debts incurred during emergency repairs and stabilize his life.

Another beneficiary, Ngô Tuấn Nam, 22, from Tuy Phuoc Dong commune, also received 30 million VND (USD 1,200) to repair his severely damaged home. Orphaned and living alone, Nam said the support would allow him to fix the roof and doors and reinforce the house ahead of the Lunar New Year.

According to Đỗ Đức Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, nearly 400 million VND (USD 16,000) has been mobilized from Youth Union members across the province.

Combined with additional social resources, the organization plans to support 15 households with a total budget of 780 million VND (USD 31,200), alongside volunteer labor tailored to each family’s needs.

Beyond housing support, the Youth Union is expanding social welfare assistance. In coordination with Tuổi Trẻ Newspaper and GREENFEED Vietnam Joint Stock Company, it distributed 80 gift packages worth 10 million VND (USD 400) each to residents in Phù Cát and Tuy Phuoc Dong communes on December 29.
