Hoang Anh Gia Lai University Medical Center on December 25 said its doctors had saved the life of a male patient in critical condition by using continuous blood filtration therapy, after he developed necrotizing acute pancreatitis complicated by septic shock and multiple organ failure.

The patient, identified as N.Đ.D., born in 2008 and residing in Ha Long hamlet, KDang commune, Gia Lai province, was admitted to the hospital’s Emergency Department on December 22 in a state of severe exhaustion, intense abdominal pain, impaired consciousness and unstable hemodynamics.

Doctors diagnosed him with necrotizing acute pancreatitis and sepsis leading to multiple organ failure. Treatment was further complicated by the patient’s medical history of epilepsy caused by a traumatic brain injury.

Given the rapid deterioration and complexity of the case, the hospital convened an emergency multidisciplinary consultation and decided to initiate continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), an advanced intensive care technique used to control severe infections and metabolic disorders.

After more than 24 hours of continuous blood filtration combined with intensive supportive treatment, the patient’s condition gradually stabilized. Vital signs were brought under control and his level of consciousness improved markedly.

As of the morning of December 25, he remained under close monitoring and treatment at the Internal Medicine Department under specialized protocols.

The hospital said that its growing capacity to apply continuous renal replacement therapy in emergency and critical care has significantly improved diagnostic and treatment outcomes, increasing survival and recovery prospects for severely ill patients.
