(GLO) – The first Gia Lai Provincial Patriotic Emulation Congress (2025-2030) convened at the provincial Convention Center, marking a milestone political and social event.

The congress reviewed achievements, honored outstanding individuals and collectives, and sought to ignite a spirit of patriotic emulation across the province.

On this occasion, Chairman of the Gia Lai provincial People’s Committee Pham Anh Tuan, and Chairman of the provincial emulation and commendation council, talked about the achievements and goals of the movement.

Looking back at the 2020–2025 period, how has the patriotic emulation movement transformed social life in Gia Lai?

-Following President Hồ Chí Minh’s teaching that “Emulation is patriotism, and to be patriotic is to emulate,” Gia Lai has implemented emulation and commendation work widely, aligning with central directives and local realities.

The movements inspired solidarity and creativity across the political system, helping the province meet socio-economic targets, strengthen defense and security, and consolidate its political foundations.

Key national movements such as “The whole country joins hands to build new rural areas,” “For the poor - Leaving no one behind,” and “Joining hands to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses” were effectively realized.

By the end of 2025, the province’s poverty rate is projected to fall to 2.24%, with 61,305 households escaping poverty, including 32,336 ethnic minority families. Particularly, poverty among ethnic minorities decreased by 4.96% annually.

The campaign to eliminate 12,520 makeshift and dilapidated houses was completed ahead of schedule with total funding of 807.6 billion VND (approx. USD 32.4 million), earning the province the Third-class Labor Order.

Other highlights include the “500 days and nights to complete 3,000 km of expressways” campaign, accelerated administrative reforms, and strong progress in digital transformation, education, and infrastructure. Patriotic emulation has become a driving force for Gia Lai’s development.

What are the most notable achievements of the emulation movement during this period?

- Patriotic emulation helped Gia Lai exceed key development targets. From 2021-2025, the economy grew at an average annual rate of 6.71%, while per capita GRDP reached USD 3,555. By 2025, the provincial budget revenue is expected to reach 27 trillion VND (approx. USD 1.08 billion).

Industry grew 10.77% annually, driven by processing, renewable energy, and high-tech projects. Agriculture advanced with 18 high-tech agricultural zones and more than 2,000 livestock farms, boosting exports such as coffee.

Retail and service turnover surpassed 741 trillion VND (approx. USD 29.7 billion), and tourism attracted over 12 million visitors. Urbanization reached 42.7%.

Social welfare, vocational training, and labor export policies improved lives, while outstanding individuals and collectives - from high-tech farmers and dedicated doctors to community philanthropists – became symbols of the movement.

Alongside these achievements, what challenges remain?

- Some movements were uneven and at times formalistic. The identification and replication of exemplary models were slow. Recognition for direct workers has improved but remains below expectations.

We have learned that strong leadership, practical alignment of movements with real-life needs, effective communication, timely recognition, and streamlined commendation procedures are essential for lasting impact.

What is the significance of Gia Lai’s first Patriotic Emulation Congress?

-This congress comes at a time when Vietnam is entering a new stage of development. For Gia Lai, it is both a celebration of achievements and a call to action.

Our vision for 2025–2030 is to strengthen unity, foster innovation and digital transformation, and build Gia Lai into a sustainable growth hub in processing industries, renewable energy, high-tech agriculture, tourism, and emerging industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

Which key emulation movements will be prioritized in the next five years?

- Gia Lai targets annual GRDP growth of 10-10.5%, per capita GRDP of USD 6,300-6,500, and total budget revenue exceeding 41 trillion VND (approx. USD 1.64 billion) by 2030. The digital economy is expected to contribute 25-30% of GRDP, and tourism will reach 18.5 million visitors.

Other goals include reducing poverty below the national average, training over 75% of the workforce, maintaining forest coverage above 46.5%, and ensuring nearly universal health insurance.

To achieve this, we will focus on six priorities: promoting Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology on emulation, aligning movements with development tasks, strengthening Party leadership, fostering innovation, accelerating administrative reform, enhancing commendation fairness, and expanding communication.

Do you have a message for officials and citizens on this occasion?

- Emulation is the strength that drives breakthroughs. I call on all officials, Party members, soldiers, businesses, and citizens to embrace solidarity and creativity, and to respond to the movement with concrete actions.

Together, we will make Gia Lai a prosperous, civilized, and well-developed province, contributing to Vietnam’s national progress.

Thank you very much!
