Since the campaign was launched in October 2024, over 334,230 houses have been built or repaired nationwide, including 255,310 newly built and 78,924 repaired, according to the prime minister.
The efforts were supported by more than 24.76 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 939.1 million U.S. dollars) in funding and over 2.7 million volunteer workdays, he said.
Secretary of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee Ho Quoc Dung attended the conference at the Hanoi venue.
At the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee venue, the conference was attended by Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Pham Anh Tuan and other officials.

A total of 334,234 makeshift and dilapidated houses have been eliminated nationwide, with total funding of nearly VND 50 trillion. Of this, over VND 24 trillion was allocated by the State, allowing the use of 5% of the 2024 recurrent expenditure savings and increased 2024 budget revenue to support housing for people with meritorious service to the revolution and relatives of martyrs.
Across the country, 2.7 million workdays and more than 454,000 participants were mobilized to support residents. Several ministries and agencies made significant contributions to the program: the Ministry of National Defense provided nearly VND 1 trillion, mobilized 140,983 officers, soldiers, and militia members, contributing 414,526 workdays and 62,916 vehicle deployments; the Ministry of Public Security contributed over VND 790 billion, mobilized more than 27,400 officers and soldiers with 534,000 workdays, and provided construction materials; the banking sector contributed over VND 1.815 trillion; the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front raised over VND 125 billion through the Central "For the Poor" Fund; and Youth Unions nationwide contributed 485,715 workdays, among others.
These results affirm the close direction of the Party and State, reflect the superior nature of the socialist regime, ensure citizens’ fundamental right to housing, and serve as evidence of the Prime Minister’s international commitments at the Global Summit on Poverty Eradication in Brazil.
Delivering remarks at the conference (Hanoi venue), Gia Lai Provincial Party Secretary Ho Quoc Dung said: With the motto “everyone contributes what they can” and the determined involvement of the entire political system, along with active community participation, as of July 25, 2025, Gia Lai province had completed the elimination of 12,520 makeshift and dilapidated houses (reaching 100% of the plan), 30 days ahead of the national deadline. The total funding for this effort exceeded VND 807 billion, sourced from the state budget, loans from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, and socialized resources from businesses, organizations, and individuals.

The armed forces, Vietnam Fatherland Front, and mass organizations joined hands, contributing tens of thousands of workdays and transporting hundreds of tons of materials to remote areas; commune-level authorities mobilized additional local labor and materials, helping to accelerate progress, reduce costs, and improve the quality of each house.
According to Secretary Ho Quoc Dung, the key lesson and the main factor behind the success of eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses in the province was the resolute and consistent leadership of Party committees and authorities; effective coordination and supervision by the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, and armed forces; and the spirit of consensus, responsibility, and solidarity among the people and business community.
“Entering a new phase, Gia Lai province is committed to maintaining and building on these achievements, resolutely preventing the recurrence of makeshift and dilapidated housing. We will continue to improve mechanisms and policies, especially social housing policies linked to sustainable poverty reduction and new rural development. We will further standardize management processes, digitize monitoring, and expand successful models.
Thus, each new house will not only be a safe and secure home, but also a source of motivation for people to rise up, contributing to the rapid, comprehensive, and sustainable development of Gia Lai province, joining the nation in confidently advancing into a new era - a period of robust, prosperous development for the Vietnamese people,” Secretary Ho Quoc Dung emphasized.
Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged, highly appreciated, congratulated, and commended the extraordinary efforts and achievements in eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses by all levels, sectors, Party committees, local authorities, mass organizations, the business community, officials, Party members, and the entire population and armed forces nationwide, making an important contribution to the country’s overall achievements.
The Prime Minister highlighted several key lessons, foremost among them the thorough and serious implementation of the Party’s guidelines and policies, the State’s laws, and the effective operation of the mechanism: “The Party leads, the State manages, the people are the masters, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations participate.”
According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the country has basically achieved the goal of eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses. However, this is only one important aspect of social policy. The core issue remains to further promote production and business, create jobs and livelihoods, continuously improve the quality of life and material and spiritual well-being of the people, encourage sustainable poverty reduction, and enable people to prosper-rising from “their own hands, minds, land, sky, and sea,” overcoming themselves, achieving legitimate wealth, and contributing to society.
To recognize and commend outstanding achievements in the campaign to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses, at the conference, 19 agencies were honoured. PM Chinh also presented 19 certificates of merit to functional bodies and individuals.
