Salavan delegation pays Tet visit to Gia Lai, pledges deeper cooperation

A high-level delegation from Salavan Province of Laos on January 6 paid a New Year visit to Gia Lai Province in Vietnam, extending Tet greetings and reaffirming commitments to strengthen bilateral cooperation ahead of the 2026 traditional holiday.

The delegation was received at the headquarters of the Gia Lai Provincial Delegation of the National Assembly and the Provincial People’s Council by Huỳnh Thúy Vân, a member of the provincial Party Committee and vice chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Council, alongside leaders of relevant council committees and offices.

The Salavan delegation was led by Siheng Homsonbat, head of the National Assembly Deputies Delegation for Constituency No. 14 and chairman of the Salavan Provincial People’s Council. He was accompanied by Khanhsay Latthahau, deputy head of the delegation and vice chairman of the provincial People’s Council, as well as officials from departments, agencies and localities in Salavan.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the longstanding special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, and between Gia Lai and Salavan in particular, describing it as a loyal, enduring bond cultivated through history and regarded as a valuable shared asset.

On behalf of Salavan’s Party Committee, authorities and people, Siheng Homsonbat conveyed wishes for a joyful and prosperous New Year to Gia Lai’s officials and residents. He expressed confidence in Gia Lai’s continued progress and success in implementing the resolution of its first provincial Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term, with further achievements expected in 2026.

He also voiced hopes for expanded cooperation across sectors where the two provinces share strengths and similarities, and encouraged Gia Lai to continue investment cooperation projects in Salavan.

Salavan’s authorities, he said, would provide favorable conditions for investors from Gia Lai. The Salavan leadership also invited Gia Lai’s senior officials to visit the province in the near future to exchange experience and promote cooperation.

Huỳnh Thúy Vân welcomed the delegation and said the visit and New Year greetings further deepened the close and meaningful ties between the two provinces.

She briefed the delegation on Gia Lai’s socio-economic development and the operation of its two-tier local government, reaffirming the province’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening its special friendship and cooperation with Salavan.

The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts between the two sides, symbolizing the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two countries and their localities.
