Gia Lai has been instructed to mobilise all resources to complete the “Quang Trung Campaign” on schedule, ensuring residents affected by recent natural disasters can move into new homes before the Lunar New Year, Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng said during an on-site inspection on January 12.

The directive follows severe damage caused by Storm No. 13 and historic flooding in November 2025, the worst in years, which disrupted socio-economic infrastructure across the Central Highlands province. More than 51,800 houses were inundated, with 28,196 homes collapsed, swept away or seriously damaged and requiring urgent repair or reconstruction.

Provincial authorities estimate housing losses at about 1.51 trillion VND (approximately USD 63 million).

According to Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai People’s Committee Dương Mah Tiệp, 674 houses were completely destroyed or suffered more than 70% damage, while the remainder sustained damage of between 30% and 70%.

To support recovery, the province allocated 60 million VND (about USD 2,500) per household for homes that were destroyed, 2–5 million VND (USD 80–210) for severely damaged houses, and 20 million VND (about USD 830) for poor or disadvantaged families needing repairs.

Temporary accommodation and social welfare assistance were also provided, including resettlement within communities or collective housing at military barracks, to ensure no residents were left homeless.

In response to the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 01/CĐ-TTg issued on January 1, 2026, the province ordered local authorities to take direct responsibility for construction, organising work in “three shifts, four teams” and maximising labour through weekends and holidays.

Military and police forces were heavily mobilised. The armed forces deployed 1,239 officers and soldiers to help build more than 100 houses, while provincial police contributed 650 personnel to construct 87 homes. Nationwide, security forces participated in large-scale efforts to accelerate progress.

As of January 12, Gia Lai has repaired 27,522 houses and completed 651 of the 674 homes that were destroyed. The remaining 23 houses, officials said, largely belong to families building larger, multi-storey homes that require more time.

“We are directing and mobilising all possible resources to complete the remaining houses before January 15, 2026, as instructed,” Vice Chairman Dương Mah Tiệp said.

Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng praised the province’s coordination and determination, describing the campaign as evidence of the Party and State’s resolve and the political system’s ability to respond swiftly in emergencies. He urged Gia Lai to accelerate work on the remaining houses and to mobilise additional equipment if needed.

The Government Standing Committee has also agreed to provide further assistance of 5 million VND (about USD 210) for households with damaged homes and 10 million VND (about USD 420) for families whose houses were destroyed, to help them stabilise their lives and prepare for Tet.

The Deputy Prime Minister further called on the province to expedite the development of resettlement areas for residents in disaster-prone zones and to report on infrastructure damage for consideration of additional central government support.

On the morning of January 12, Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng visited and shared the joy of new homes with the families of Nguyễn Thị Minh Dự and Nguyễn Thị Thu Hồng, both in Tuy Phước Đông commune.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Quốc Dũng inspected the construction of the resettlement project for households in the eastern coastal road area (An Quang Đông hamlet, Đề Gi commune). The project is located on a 2.4-hectare site west of the ĐT.639 coastal road, with a total investment of over 28.3 billion VND, constructed by Trường Sơn Construction Corporation, Corps 12. To date, eight families have registered to receive homes in the resettlement area.
