(GLO) – Vietnam marked the 80th anniversary of its independence by reaffirming ambitious long-term national targets: to become a modern upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a developed, high-income socialist nation by 2045.

The milestones coincide with two historic anniversaries, the 100th founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2030 and the 100th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 2045, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Both goals were outlined in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

The government said reforms are central to this vision. Political institutional reform, including a two-tier local government model, is underway.

A “four-pillar” strategy is also being implemented, focusing on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation; deeper international integration; stronger law-making and enforcement; and expansion of the private economy.

Officials stressed that these priorities are not only developmental requirements but also imperatives for the nation’s future.

Vietnam’s pursuit of comprehensive reforms builds on nearly 40 years of renovation, which has delivered significant progress.

However, leaders acknowledge the country faces a rapidly changing global environment, including political and economic shifts, technological disruption, climate change, and both traditional and non-traditional security challenges.

Authorities emphasized that achieving the centennial goals requires continued innovation, mobilization of all resources, and determination across society.

On September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam’s independence, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam after the Japanese occupation.

That moment ushered in what leaders describe as the “era of independence, freedom, and socialism,” which continues to guide the country’s development path.
