The update was delivered during the 24th session of the National Steering Committee on Combating IUU Fishing on December 2, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà and connected online to 22 coastal provinces and cities. In Gia Lai, the meeting was led by Provincial People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dương Mah Tiệp.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of November 29, 2025, ministries, sectors and localities have completed 101 tasks related to IUU prevention.
All 79,243 fishing vessels nationwide have been updated in the Vnfishbase database. Vessels failing to meet operational standards are now under strict local control, with specific anchoring locations assigned and monitored by communal authorities and relevant forces.
Over the past week, authorities inspected 1,660 vessel departures and 1,457 arrivals; supervised 3,113 tons of seafood via the eCDT system; and recorded no new cases of vessels violating foreign waters. Communication campaigns have also been intensified across media platforms and social networks.
Gia Lai reported that it has maintained full oversight of its fishing fleet, with no serious violations and no vessels detained overseas since June 2024.
All provincial vessels are registered, digitized, licensed and equipped with monitoring systems. Authorities have imposed more than 4.3 billion VND (approx. USD 172,000) in fines for violations such as monitoring loss or boundary crossing.
Alongside strengthened departure inspections, the province is providing livelihood support for vessels that do not meet operational standards under Resolution 10/2025 to help stabilize incomes and sustain long-term IUU prevention measures.
During the session, delegates discussed solutions to remaining weaknesses, including optimizing resources, maintaining intensive patrols near borders, and forming inter-agency inspection teams to review local IUU prevention performance.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hà praised national and local efforts but urged stricter enforcement against monitoring loss, boundary violations and illegal operations in foreign waters.
He instructed ministries and sectors to remove legal obstacles flagged by the European Commission, compile full data and documentation on violations, and finalize policies supporting job transitions for fishermen. All tasks must be completed by December 15, 2025.
