Organised by the commune’s People’s Committee at the Plơi Ia Mrơn village stadium, the event celebrated the harvest while promoting the preservation of Jrai cultural traditions.
Held after the harvest, the new rice ritual invites the rice spirit back to the granary and expresses gratitude to heaven and earth for a plentiful crop. It also includes prayers for favourable weather, healthy rice plants and abundant future harvests.
Ritual leader Rô Bhak conducted the ceremony with offerings of four jars of wine, a black pig and two baskets of freshly harvested rice.
Before the assembled villagers, he offered prayers to Yang for full granaries, healthy children, the continuation of cultural traditions and prosperity for every household.
As he recited the prayers, he sprinkled wine from the jars onto the baskets of new rice to invite the deities to join the celebration.
Representatives, villagers and visitors were then invited to share the wine.
Gong teams from villages across the commune performed alongside traditional xoang dancing. Sports and games included tug of war, sack races and blindfolded duck catching.
Visitors could also browse stalls selling local agricultural and forestry products and sample regional cuisine.
The event aimed to strengthen awareness of ethnic cultural identity and give artisans opportunities to exchange knowledge and pass traditions on to younger generations. It also promoted local culture and products to support experiential and community-based tourism.
