Since its launch in 2023, the tournament has developed into a gathering point for athletes, sponsors and philanthropists, channeling donations into housing, education and social welfare projects.
During its first three seasons from 2023 to 2025, each tournament attracted an average of about 180 athletes and support from around 80 individuals and organizations nationwide.
Contributions averaged approximately VND 1 billion ($38,500) per season in cash and in-kind donations, taking total resources mobilized over the three years to more than VND 3 billion ($115,400).
The fourth edition has expanded further, bringing together 230 players and 110 sponsors and raising more than VND 1.3 billion ($50,000) in cash and in-kind contributions.
A key initiative this season is the donation of seven charity houses to policy beneficiary families, war veterans and ethnic minority households facing difficult circumstances in Kon Gang commune.
Trần Minh Chấn, Secretary of the Kon Gang Commune Party Committee, said the support had helped the locality mobilize additional resources for residents needing safer housing.
“The commune greatly appreciates and thanks the tournament organizers and benefactors for their concern and efforts to connect and support local people in repairing and building homes,” Chấn said.
He said the commune had mobilized more than VND 100 million ($3,850), which was combined with over VND 220 million ($8,460) from the Lang Bi Quarry Cup organizers. The combined resources exceeded VND 330 million ($12,700) for housing assistance.
Kon Gang currently has about 170 poor households and more than 500 near-poor households, according to Chấn. Although housing conditions have generally improved, around 100 families continue to live in unstable and unsafe homes.
The commune plans to continue mobilizing social resources alongside state funding to build and repair homes, with the aim of completing its support efforts during the 2025-2030 term.
The tournament’s charity work has expanded steadily since its inaugural edition in 2023, when organizers donated 900 health insurance cards, built six volleyball courts and provided meal allowances, rice and warm clothing in the former border district of Đức Cơ. Fifteen disadvantaged students also received sponsorship.
In 2024, the second edition supported construction of five charity houses for families in need, sponsored traditional musical instruments, assisted the SOS Children’s Village in Pleiku and provided savings books. The tournament also contributed assistance to people affected by storms and floods in northern Vietnam.
The humanitarian program continued in 2025, when organizers donated 25 televisions to remote schools, provided 40 bicycles and scholarships to diligent students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and built another three charity houses.
The tournament also provided VND 50 million ($1,920) in assistance to the people of Cuba.
Dr. Major General Rah Lan Lâm, former Director of Gia Lai Provincial Police and head of the tournament’s Organizing Committee, said the event was intended to extend beyond sport.
“The tournament is not merely a sporting event but a journey of compassion, sharing and community connection,” Lâm said. “The contributions made each season have become bridges of kindness, inspiring hope and motivation for families and children facing hardship to rise above their circumstances.”
The fourth season aims to further develop tennis and pickleball alongside social welfare programs, including housing assistance and scholarships for disadvantaged students, families and ethnic minority communities in Kon Gang, Ia Dơk, Ia Nam and Ia Dom communes and An Phú ward.
Phan Thanh Thiên, Vice President of the Vietnam Pickleball Federation, said professionally organized tournaments could help develop the sport while generating broader benefits for communities.
“We need to expand professionally organized and high-quality tournaments like the Lang Bi Quarry Cup, which not only create playgrounds for athletes and promote the pickleball movement but also spread positive values throughout the community,” Thiên said.
Organizers plan to continue surveying the needs of disadvantaged families in Ia Dơk, Ia Nam and Ia Dom communes and An Phú ward and provide further assistance, extending the tournament’s combination of sport, philanthropy and community support.
