Gia Lai Province is accelerating land inventory, compensation and site clearance for the construction of Runway No. 2 and related infrastructure at Phu Cat Airport, with authorities aiming to hand over all cleared land to contractors as early as possible.

The Grade I aviation project has a total investment exceeding VND 3,245 billion (approx. USD 129.5 million) from the provincial budget, including VND 2,177 billion (USD 86.9 million) for construction and VND 1,067 billion (USD 42.6 million) for compensation and land clearance. Implementation is scheduled from 2025 to 2028.

Provincial Vice Chairman Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang said the project plays a vital role in boosting socio-economic development and strengthening national defense and security across the South Central and Central Highlands regions.

The provincial government has instructed the Project Management Board to work closely with military units, airport authorities and local governments to maintain schedule adherence.

The clearance zone affects around 300 households and six organizations, covering 196.91 hectares, including 87.47 hectares of provincial land and 109.44 hectares of defense land. Another 128 households and three organizations with 12.85 hectares are affected by the development of three resettlement areas, Tan Le, Vinh Phu and Tan Nghi, and the relocation of the Tan Le hamlet cemetery.

Authorities have so far handed over 37 hectares of cleared provincial land to contractors, along with sites for the three resettlement areas and the cemetery relocation. Local support has contributed to progress, including Thien Hung My Tho Co., Ltd., which voluntarily transferred 21 hectares at the Hoa Son Hill Industrial Cluster, with compensation to be finalized later.

Verification of agricultural land origins continues for 64 households remaining in the Runway No. 2 area. Phu Cat Commune aims to finalize plans for 30 of its 31 households this week, with one case pending due to an internal family dispute. An Nhon and An Nhon Bac wards have committed to completing their verification work within December 2025.

Deputy Director Ngo Anh Tuan of the Project Management Board noted that significant tasks remain, but emphasized that coordination among agencies and localities will continue with the goal of handing over all cleared land to construction units as soon as possible.
