Nguyễn Vinh, Deputy Head of the Gia Lai Fine Arts Association, said painter Nguyễn Văn Chung and sculptor Nguyễn Nam were recognised in separate competitions organised by leading national arts bodies.
Nguyễn Văn Chung received a consolation prize from the Vietnam Association of Literature and Arts of Ethnic Minorities for his woodcut Lệ rừng (“Forest Tears”). The work draws inspiration from the Central Highlands and delivers a warning about deforestation.
Sculptor Nguyễn Nam was awarded a consolation prize at the Literature and Arts Awards of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations for his wooden sculpture Nét Tây Nguyên 2 (“Central Highlands Impressions 2”).
The sculpture is described as a composition of human emotions in daily life, expressed through wooden pillars carved with distinctive Central Highlands masks.
