Authorities in Hội Phú Ward, Gia Lai Province, are coordinating with runner Nguyễn Văn Long to organize a 102-day endurance challenge in which he aims to set a Guinness World Record by running 100 kilometers a day.

The program is scheduled to take place from Dec. 10, 2026, to March 21, 2027, at the Hội Phú Riverside Urban Area, where participants will run on a course of approximately 2.4 kilometers.

Under the plan, Long will complete 100 kilometers each day for 102 consecutive days, covering a total distance of 10,200 kilometers.

The event is also expected to encourage broad community participation. Running clubs, athletes and residents from both inside and outside Gia Lai Province are invited to take part. Organizers expect around 10,000 online participants throughout the program and about 3,000 runners to attend the closing event on March 21, 2027.

Online participants will be able to register for challenges lasting between 20 and 102 days, choosing daily running distances ranging from 2 to 42 kilometers.

Beyond the running challenge, the program will include community activities, networking opportunities for runners and charitable initiatives supporting disadvantaged children in Gia Lai Province.

Organizers said the initiative aims not only to establish a new Guinness World Record but also to promote recreational running, encourage healthy lifestyles and highlight Gia Lai's culture, tourism and local communities.

During a working session on Aug. 4, Long and representatives of the Hội Phú Ward People's Committee discussed preparations for the event, including venue arrangements, organizational planning, coordination, security, traffic management, healthcare services, environmental sanitation and measures to encourage public participation.

Mr. Nguyen Van Long (born 1985 in Gia Lai) is a former track and field athlete, widely known in the running community by the nickname “eccentric Long”.

He has completed numerous long-distance running journeys, including cross-country runs across Vietnam, helping to inspire a spirit of athleticism and the determination to push beyond personal limits.
