(GLO) – A humble plate of chicken rice has become the signature draw at Dông Ưng 2 Restaurant in Pleiku, Gia Lai Province, where diners praise its freshness and flavor.

Each serving features rice cooked in chicken broth with a touch of turmeric, paired with chicken fried to a crisp but tender inside. Guests often complement the dish with bitter melon soup with shrimp or sweet-and-sour giang leaf soup.

The restaurant sells 70-80 portions daily, priced from 45,000 VND (US$1.70). All chicken is delivered fresh in the morning, with a strict policy against frozen poultry.

“Our principle is to sell only the chicken we receive each day. Nothing is kept overnight. We prioritize free-range chicken to preserve quality and earn our customers’ trust,” said owner Đinh Công Thu.

Though added to the lunch and dinner menu only three months ago, chicken rice has quickly made Dông Ưng 2 a local favorite.

Resident Hoàng Văn Tú said the freshness stands out: “Whether fried, boiled or braised, the chicken is always juicy, never dry. Besides lunch, I often come in the mornings for their chicken noodle soup.”

The menu also offers roasted chicken, shredded chicken salad, braised chicken, crispy fried chicken, and sweet-and-sour pork rib rice.

What sets Dông Ưng apart is careful preparation rather than elaborate presentation. The rice is fragrant, the chicken golden and crisp, and the restaurant’s rustic wooden tables create a homely atmosphere.

That consistency has built loyalty and word-of-mouth recognition, attracting both locals and visitors.

“I heard from friends that the chicken rice here was delicious, so I tried it,” said Trần Thị Hạnh from Quảng Ngãi Province. “The chicken was crispy yet tender, and the rice fragrant and moist. I understood why it’s popular despite being far from the city center. If visiting Pleiku again, I’ll definitely come back.”
