Gia Lai Trade Union Congress sets digital transformation as 2025–2030 breakthrough

The Gia Lai Provincial Trade Union on Monday identified digital transformation and innovation as its central priorities for the 2025–2030 term, as it convened its first provincial congress at the Gia Lai Provincial Convention Center.

The congress, attended by about 200 official delegates representing more than 80,000 union members province-wide, marked a key political milestone for workers and labor organizations in Gia Lai.

Senior provincial leaders, including Party Central Committee member and Provincial Party Secretary Thái Đại Ngọc, and representatives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL), were present.

Addressing the gathering, Hà Duy Trung, reappointed president of the Gia Lai Provincial Confederation of Labor for the 2025–2030 term, said the congress underscored the trade union’s commitment to renewal and modernization, positioning it as a driving force in the province’s socio-economic development.

Following organizational restructuring, the provincial labor federation now oversees 90,729 workers, civil servants and laborers. During the past term, it established 225 grassroots trade unions and 17 commune- and ward-level unions, enrolling 29,374 new members. The province currently has 1,003 grassroots unions with 80,136 members.

Trade unions at all levels conducted 364 oversight missions, joined 567 monitoring activities and organized 246 social consultations, focusing on wages, social insurance, labor contracts and workplace safety. These efforts helped workers recover more than 2.5 billion VND (about USD 102,000).

Annual welfare programs supported more than 449,800 workers with total funding of 186 billion VND (about USD 7.6 million), while 142 “Trade Union Shelters” and charity houses were built or repaired at a cost exceeding 6 billion VND (about USD 245,000). Contributions to social funds, blood donation campaigns and disaster relief topped 31.6 billion VND (about USD 1.29 million).

Thái Đại Ngọc praised the provincial trade union for strengthening grassroots engagement and effectively representing workers’ legitimate rights and interests. He urged continued political education and the renewal of organizational methods, with greater attention to employment, income, housing and working conditions.

VGCL Vice President Huỳnh Thanh Xuân called digital transformation, innovation and the application of science and technology a “breakthrough priority” for the new term, while stressing the need to professionalize union officials and expand membership at the grassroots level.

The congress appointed a 27-member executive committee, a nine-member standing committee and a five-member inspection committee for the 2025–2030 term.

It also adopted 12 key targets, including recruiting 5,000 new members annually, ensuring 90% of members receive legal and policy education, improving skills for 65% of workers, generating 1,500 initiatives, applying eight research projects, and conducting financial inspections at at least 20% of enterprises.
