The groundbreaking ceremony for the Quy Nhon–Pleiku Expressway, a key infrastructure project in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, is scheduled for December 19, according to provincial officials.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang chaired a working session in Pleiku Ward to review project progress with the Provincial Project Management Board for Transport and Civil Works and local authorities.

The expressway, stretching 125 kilometers through 16 communes and wards, will feature four lanes with a design speed of 100 km/h. The project’s total investment is VND 43,734 billion (approximately USD 1.73 billion) and will be implemented in three component phases of 22 km, 68 km, and 35 km respectively.

Land clearance and resettlement

For Component Project 1, around 171.86 hectares of land will be acquired, affecting 1,319 households and eight organizations. Component Project 2 will require 517.92 hectares, impacting 2,060 households and nine organizations. The third component will involve 363.44 hectares, affecting about 2,113 households, with four resettlement areas planned in Mang Yang and Ia Bang communes.

The Project Management Board has completed boundary handovers for cadastral mapping and submitted affected household lists to local authorities. Site clearance activities officially began on October 25, 2025, while land inventories are expected to conclude by December 5, 2025. Full site handover for construction is targeted by March 31, 2026, with resettlement areas scheduled for completion the same month.

Localities are required to report progress weekly to the Project Management Board, which will hold biweekly review meetings and coordinate closely with departments of Agriculture, Environment, and Finance to unify compensation land prices. Mobile inspection teams will monitor site progress weekly.

“We are here to act, not to delay. All tasks must be carried out effectively to ensure the project breaks ground on December 19 and progresses simultaneously along the entire route,” Vice Chairman Hoang affirmed.
