Pleiku authorities on February 5 installed a new eight horses mascot cluster at Đại Đoàn Kết Square, completing one of the key decorative highlights planned ahead of the 2026 Year of the Horse (Bính Ngọ).

The installation, coordinated by the People’s Committee of Pleiku Ward in Gia Lai Province and sculptor Nguyễn Vinh, is scheduled to be fully decorated before February 9 to welcome residents and visitors during the Tet season.

The mascot cluster is positioned to the right of the Statue of President Ho Chi Minh with the Central Highlands ethnic groups, accompanied by floral decorations.

A complementary flower arrangement and a sign welcoming the Year of the Horse have been placed on the left side of the monument, according to Pleiku Museum Director Lê Thanh Tuấn, whose unit oversees the landscaping work.

Crafted from composite materials, the eight horses are inspired by the traditional concept “Mã đáo thành công”, symbolizing success and good fortune.

The lead horse rises more than four meters high, including its pedestal, while the remaining figures are depicted in dynamic galloping poses with stylized clouds beneath their hooves.

Gold-colored ingots placed at the base of the statues further emphasize themes of prosperity and abundance for the new year.

Sculptor Nguyễn Vinh said the horse motif, rooted in East Asian cultural symbolism, reflects aspirations for perseverance, unity and breakthrough. He added that placing the “Bát mã” (eight horses) cluster in the wide expanse of the square evokes the image of horses racing across the Central Highlands plateau, echoing the region’s spirit of integration and development.

Local resident Lê Thị Kim Trang, who witnessed the installation, praised the vibrancy and grandeur of the mascots. She said the expressive eyes and harmonious colors capture the essence of the design and that she plans to bring her family for Tet photos in áo dài once all decorations are completed.

Preparations for the site are expected to conclude by February 9, the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month, ensuring the square is ready for Tet activities leading into the Year of the Horse 2026.
