The first-ever Bình Định Fight Night in Pleiku drew large crowds on 25–26 February as fighters delivered high-intensity bouts and traditional martial arts performances at Dai Doan Ket Square, marking a highlight event ahead of the 2026 National Tourism Year.

Over two nights, 10 matchups featuring 20 fighters across multiple weight classes energized audiences from Pleiku and the western districts of Gia Lai province.

Spectators were captivated by the athletes’ composure, ringcraft and tactical precision, with each round unfolding as a calculated exchange of strikes, movement and counterattacks.

A standout moment came on 25 February when Lê Thị Xuân Trúc of the Nguyễn Tấn Đô Martial Arts School scored a first-round knockout, prompting an eruption of applause from the mountain-town crowd. She said the atmosphere boosted her confidence: “Each match is not just about winning or losing but a chance to build resilience and show the martial practitioners’ spirit”.

Male competitors, including provincial and national medalists in traditional martial arts and kickboxing, delivered equally intense performances marked by power, accuracy and strategic control.

National boxing champion Thái Văn Lâm said the tournament strengthened public engagement with martial arts. “The fighters brought strong energy to the ring. Events like this help young people follow their passion and potentially become new talents for the province,” he said.

Beyond the competitive bouts, the event featured a wide range of Bình Định traditional martial arts demonstrations, recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. Students performed routines such as Phụng Hoàng Quyền, Tứ Linh Đao, Thái Sơn Côn, Lôi Long Đao and Hùng Kê Quyền, combining strength, technical discipline and years of training.

Local resident Nguyễn Ngọc Dư, who brought his child to watch the event, said witnessing the performances firsthand deepened his appreciation for the dedication of young practitioners. He hopes his child will one day perform at future editions of Bình Định Fight Night.

According to Trần Bảo Sơn, Director of the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Sports Training and Competition, hosting the event in Pleiku supports efforts to promote and preserve Bình Định martial arts across the Central Highlands. He said wider public exposure is critical to building sustainable interest and nurturing future talent.

Sơn added that with ongoing administrative restructuring, combining Gia Lai’s long-standing combat sports culture with the heritage of Bình Định traditional martial arts could generate fresh momentum for local development and youth training.

From packed spectator areas to culturally rich performances, the debut edition of Bình Định Boxing Night served not only as a sporting showcase but also as a platform to reinforce community pride and carry forward the martial spirit for future generations.
