Crowds pack Pleiku Square for 2-night “Binh Dinh martial arts” showcase

Excitement swept through Pleiku on February 25 as crowds filled Dai Doan Ket Square for the opening night of the two-day “Binh Dinh Martial Arts Night”, an event organized by the Gia Lai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to promote traditional Vietnamese martial arts.

The program, held on February 25-26, drew residents and tourists for a series of high-energy performances and competitive bouts rooted in the martial heritage of previous Binh Dinh province. Opening festivities featured resounding drum displays and vibrant lion dances that set an animated tone across the square.

Five sparring matches headlined the February 25 lineup, beginning with the men’s 51-kg category between Nguyễn Xuân Tuấn Long of PK Pleiku Dojo and Võ Lâm Huy of Nguyễn Tấn Đô Dojo. In the women’s 51-kg division, Đỗ Hà Ngọc Linh of Văn Xuân Toàn Dojo faced Lê Thị Xuân Trúc of Nguyễn Tấn Đô Dojo.

Other contests included the men’s 48-kg match between Đỗ Đức Toàn (Trương Quốc Tịnh Dojo, Bờ Ngoong) and Trịnh Gia Huy (Hoa Sen Dojo, Mang Yang), followed by another men’s 51-kg bout featuring Đặng Bảo Nam (Nguyễn Tấn Đô Dojo, Pleiku) against Lê Tuấn Anh (Lê Văn Dũng Dojo, Đắk Lắk). The night closed with a men’s 57-kg showdown between Năm Hóa (Năm Châu Dojo, An Bình) and Đào Thành Phong (Lê Văn Dũng Dojo, Đắk Lắk).

The matches unfolded at a relentless pace, with sharp strikes, swift counters and crowd-stirring exchanges that underscored the skill and discipline of the fighters.

Between bouts, martial art practitioners showcased a series of technical performances, including rolling shield sabers, Thai Son staff techniques, Thunder Dragon saber routines and Green Dragon single-sword demonstrations, each illustrating the depth of training within local martial arts schools.

The festival continues on February 26 with additional sparring and performances, aiming to further highlight the cultural value and community spirit of traditional martial arts.
